Items
Needed:
White felt,
approx 3x3 inch squares
Homemade
ink (You can also use Tria, Studio or any alcohol based inks) in
various colors
*You can
also use non-alcohol dye inks for this technique. Wet your felt with
rubbing alcohol then add your inks.
Glossy cardstock cut to 5-1/2" x 4-1/4
Metal leafing pen (it MUST be a leafing pen, regular metallic pens
will not work) OR Spray Webbing (see below)
Rubber gloves (to protect your fingers from dye ink marks!)
old newspapers or other protective paper for your table / work
surface.
**Use
alcohol inks in well ventilated areas!
Directions for Leafing Pen
1. Carefully
open your ink bottles and keep them open while working.
2. Shake the
metal leafing pen, and start the metal ink flowing onto the pen
nib. Protect the work surface with several layers of newspaper. Lay
the glossy cardstock on the paper glossy side up.
3. Put a
small amount of ink on the felt (use an eye dropper OR cotton ball)
by squirting it directly onto the felt. Make the ink spot smaller
than a dime for each color. Repeat this, putting three colors of
ink right next to each other on the felt. Do not worry about
overlapping the ink because the ink is alcohol based and will not
mix. After putting the last ink color on the felt, take the gold
leafing pen, and make random dots of metal ink on the glossy
cardstock. I usually start with 8 dots on the first piece of
cardstock.
4. Right
after applying the metal leafing to the cardstock, fold the corners
of the felt up to make an applicator with the ink at the bottom and
start dabbing the felt with the ink onto the gold dots. Also, dab
the ink randomly around the cardstock. You need to get the ink onto
the paper quickly before either the ink or the gold leafing dries.
The idea is to get the gold leafing to move in the ink and create
the polished stone look. The gold leafing should not be covering
the ink in a consistent layer, but should make veins throughout the
paper.

Spray
Webbing
Using your
can of spray webbing, spray a LIGHT amount of webbing directly onto
your cardstock. Let dry.
Apply ink to
felt, and directly above. Apply felt applicator to your cardstock
and there ya go!
After your
ink is dry (I usually let it set about an hour JUST to be sure)
"polish" with a tissue, LIGHTLY rubbing your cardstock with it...
**HINTS**
Do not RUB
your felt into your cardstock. Tap it with the palm of your hand.
If using
homemade inks, use an eye dropper OR cotton ball to put your ink
onto you felt- don't pour. Too much ink results in a "Watermark"
type look.
