Leigh's Altered World of Game Pieces
Depeche Mode Fast Fashion
Depeche Mode is my all time favorite music band and the inspiration for this issue of Leigh's Altered World of Game Pieces! Depeche Mode roughly means Fast Fashion in French and I challenged my Design Team and readers to create artwork featuring fashion and game tiles! Enjoy!

remaining areas of the canvas. Apply a VERY thick layer of Sunflower
Yellow Acrylic Paint over the entire canvas. Allow to thoroughly

the canvas completely with a clean dry paper towel.
Scrub random areas of the canvas with sandpaper or a clean kitchen

“Fashion
Changing Screen” by Valerie Snaith
Reader Submission
Create the mini ‘changing screen’ from shipping tags that are
already attached and form an accordion tag booklet (Tall Mouse Arts
& Crafts).
Tip: You can make your own accordion tag booklet by creating a
template from one tag and then repeating the shape for as many tags
as you wish to have in your book. Score the fold lines, cut out and
fold.
Decorate the shipping tags by stamping the image of buttons
(Personal Impressions) randomly in Versa mark’s watermark pigment
ink (Tsukineko). Add colour to the stamped images by dusting
Creative Chalks over the wet ink with a crafters sponge (Hobby Craft
UK). Outline the edges of the tags with a broad line Liquid Gold
paint marker (DecoColor). Computer generate the word ‘Fashion’ and
colour before printing out two copies. Cut out the text and adhere
to the shipping tags with Aleene’s tacky glue. Add colour to the
text by dusting on chalks around the edges. Cut out found images of
fashionable ladies and adhere to the tags with double-sided sticky
pop-dots for dimension. Glue a pink feather to the tag just behind
the lady on the first tag. Embellish the mini ‘changing screen’ with
assorted charms, beaded dangles, buttons and a pink bow and adhere
with tacky glue. Alter a new (shiny) Triomino game tile by dabbing
the tile directly onto a Brilliance ink pad (Tsukineko) to add
colour. Heat set with an embossing heat gun. Stamp the buttons image
onto the Triomino in coal black Ancient Page dye ink (ClearSnap) and
heat set. Adhere a button to the Triomino with tacky glue and then
glue the Triomino to the middle tag. Finish off the mini ‘changing
screen’ by threading assorted fancy fibers through the holes in the
tags.) |

Centerfold:
An Accordion Fashion Card by Lis Whiting
Create your base card:
Cut a piece of tan sparkle cardstock [The Paper Cut] to 6x8. Lay
your card out horizontally. Score at the following points along the
cardstock: 1”, 2 ½”, 4”, 5 ½, 7”. Start by folding the first score
as a valley fold. Accordion fold the rest. The last fold should also
be a valley fold.
Cut two pieces of cardstock in contrasting color to 6 x 3 (sparkle
green used here). Score each piece at 1 ½”. Fold each piece in half.
Use a bone folder on all folds. These pieces will be used as the
front and back covers.
Punch the Eiffel Tower on the left and right front and a pagoda on
left and right back [All Night Media]. We want to see the tan
through the punched design. Make sure you don’t punch too far to the
edge. The punches should be on the outside front and back of the
card, not the inside. The tops of each image will be pointing toward
each other.
Glue the covers onto the accordion card, making sure to put glue
(preferably glue stick for this) on the tan that will show through.
Sprinkle glitter over the punched areas [Night Lights by Art
Glitter]. Set the glitter into the images by rubbing over them with
your finger. You have to work fast. If some of the glue dries and
you end up with bald spots, don’t worry. Take a fine brush or wooden
toothpick and add more glue and then sprinkle again with glitter.
Clean around punched images so that they are clear. (I find a wooden
skewer works really well.) Let dry.
Finish
the outside covers of your card first:
The Accordion Booklet will be in portrait. Keep this in mind when
you stamp the covers. Stamp various words on the front and back
covers [Fashion Boutique 1 and 2 from Sunday International] in
Ultimate Metallic Green [Encore! By Tsukineko].
Punch out fashion designs [Punch Bunch and All Night Media] in
Eclipse paper. (This is masking paper and has a tacky back.) Place
the punchies randomly on the outside back of your card and then
color dust with Deep Turquoise [Vick Bantouk collection by Ranger].
Take off the punchies.
The Inside of the Card:
You will need a total of 7 dominos of varying sizes. I prefer the
Mahjong Tiles because their thickness (1/8”) is easier for inside
work. Prepare your dominos and then stamp them each in black StazOn
[Tsukineko] with various fashion images. Heat set. Color dust the
dominos in Deep Turquoise [Vick Bantouk collection by Ranger]. Edge
the dominos in Sharpie Black or Gold.
Choose one dress form [Fashion Boutique 1 and 2 from Sunday
International] and stamp this in the center of your card (inside)
using Ultimate Metallic Green [Encore! By Tsukineko]. The card
should be vertical (or portrait). Add wings and hat in Ultimate
Metallic Gold [Encore! By Tsukineko]. Stamp “Timeless Style” at the
top and “Take another look” at the bottom in Brilliance Black
[Tsukineko]. Add the colored and embellished dominos randomly.
Stamp
the wings again on vellum and emboss in gold sparkle. Color in the
wings with Twinkling H2O’s in Mustard Green (inner) and Snap Dragon
(outer). The embossing and the painting will naturally curl the
vellum. Set aside to dry.
Take 2 or 3 pieces of washi paper of different designs and glue them
together on the backside. Take your dress form stamp and stamp on
the back of the washi paper. Cut out the form. Attach the angel
wings and glue to the dress form stamped on your card. Use pink
metal photo corners for skirt fringe and a ribbon buckle with ribbon
for a belt. Place glue in the holes of the photo corners and attach
red acrylic gems (4.5mm).
I used vellum for the following punches. Punch out two mini library
pockets [McGill] and attach to card. Outline a ticket stub (or a
mini tag) in gold, attach a gold paper key charm and slide into one
pocket. Place a token or plastic disk in the other. Color dust the
edges of the inside with Deep Turquoise [Vick Bantouk collection by
Ranger].
Add stamped words in different fonts like “explore”, “wonder”,
“create”, “inspire” and “dream” [Just Rite pre-inked stamps]. Tie
finished card with a green ribbon to close. |
