“Balenciaga Fashion Switch Plate Covers” by Stephanie Loomis

1. Sand two switch plate covers (one double, one single)

2. Cover with two patterns from Basic Grey Black Tie collection. (Measure switch plate covers and add 3/4” extra to paper. Miter edges for a smooth finish— Photo 1
) I used YES paste, but any craft glue, Mod Podge, or double stick tape should work if the cover is sufficiently sanded. Let dry completely.

3. Cut pictures of Balenciaga, black and white photo of 1952 model, and sketch from magazine (People, July 3, 2006)
4. Place Balenciaga photo and sketch magazine images face down on packing tape. Burnish and trim. Soak in water up to 30 minutes.

5. Carefully peel paper from wet packing tape. Gently rub until all the paper is removed and the images are transferred to the tape.

6. Place Balenciaga photo on one regular size domino (There should be enough tackiness to the tape to hold the image in place.) Place sketch image on a second domino.

7. Stamp “Balenciaga” vertically on single switch plate using Palette Noir (Stewart Superior) ink and Distressed Bet (The Angel Company) stamps.

8. Use white craft glue to attach Balenciaga photo domino to upper right of single switch plate. Let dry.

9. Create a “bouquet” of silver pins and tie with black thread. Secure with white craft glue and attach to lower right. Let dry.

10. Tap tops of screws to Jet Black Staz-On ink before hanging switch plate on wall. Photo 2

11. Trim 1952 model photo closely. Apply face down on O’So Sticky tape sheet (Penny Wise Arts.) Recover (to minimize tackiness on scissors) and trim closely.

12. Peel red liner from picture and cover image with clear ultra-fine microbeads (Penny Wise Arts.)

13. Center image on double switch plate cover and secure with YES paste.

14. Glue sketch domino on lower right of double switch plate cover.

15. Create a “starburst” pattern from silver pins using a glue dot as a base. Secure with white glue and wrap with black thread. Glue to upper left of double switch plate cover. Let dry.

16. Tap tops of screws to Jet Black StazOn ink before hanging switch plate on wall. Photo 3
