“Playing the Angel” Fashion Torso by Karen Bourke

Cut out three torsos approximately 5 ½” x 3”.  Colourwash them with Tattered Rose ink.  Punch a hole at the top of each torso and set in co-ordinating eyelets.  Stamp with your choice of images – those used on the torsos were from www.paperartsy.co.uk and those on the dominoes were from marberryhouse@tiscali.co.uk.

Take 3 dominoes and use Butterscotch and Pearl alcohol inks to achieve a polished stone effect on them.  Stamp a 1940’s fashion image on each of the dominoes in StazOn ink.  Stamp the images again onto patterned paper and cut out the dresses, shirt and trousers and decoupage onto the images on the dominoes. See Picture 1
Place the three dominoes in a zigzag line onto some brown cardstock; draw around the shapes and cut out.  Stick the dominoes onto the cut out card.

Then start to add your embellishments to the main torsos using anything you have handy in your sewing box; fabric, lace, paper pattern, safety pins, needles, embroidery thread, buttons, tape measure etc.    Glue your three dominoes onto the front of the first torso.  When you have finished embellishing your torsos thread different ribbons/fibres through the eyelets to join them together.

Take a miniature torso and use alcohol ink to colour the back, add a word/phrase to the front and add gold wings, beads to the bottom three holes and a lobster claw hook to the top to enable you to attach it to your fibres. See Picture 2

Take two more dominoes and either use alcohol inks to colour the edges and backs or use a Krylon metallic pen.  Take some cream card and cut a piece four times the width of the domino and the same length.  Fold in half lengthways and then fold the two outside edges in to the middle fold.  Glue each end to the inside of a domino to achieve a small “book”.  Pierce holes in the centre double piece of card and thread through your needles. See Picture 3
On the front cover of the domino attach a copy of a needle pack front.  Glue a jewellery eye to the back of the domino needle book to thread onto your ribbons.

Attach the miniature torso and domino needle book, using the ribbons/fibres, to the main project. See Picture 4
