Corset Pincushion by Deirdre

This project uses 8 brand new dominos. Color 4 of the dominos with a Purple Sharpie Marker; color them one at a time, rubbing the color in with a tissue as you go to get a soft muted color. Set the dominos out in pairs, 2 pair of purple and 2 pair of white. Ink up the Corset stamp (Melanie Sage ) with black StazOn ink. Press a purple domino onto the right half of the stamp and then press the matching domino to the left half of the stamp. Roll the dominos to the inside of the corset as you lift the domino off the stamp to ensure the image will meet in the middle. Stamp the remaining pairs of dominos the same way.

Use Scotch tape to tape the dominos together in their pairs. See Photo 1

Mark 5 holes down the middle of the inside of all the dominos. Drill the holes with a hand held or Dremel drill. See Photo 2

Edge all the dominos with a Silver Metallic Sharpie Marker.

Coat with a fixative and then a sealant (both Krylon ). Let dry overnight.

Cut 4 separate pieces of black cord to 14 inches each. Using the picture as a guide, lace the corsets up and tie into bows at the bottom of the dominos. See Photo 3

Paint a purchased paper mache box 2 inch by 1 ½ inch. (local craft store ) with the Silver Metallic Sharpie Marker. Let dry.

Create the pincushion by laying out a square of shiny purple fabric 12x12. Push the center of the fabric into the box and fill with rice or filler beans, gather the edges together and tie off with a piece of cord. Turn it upside down in the box and fit it into place. If it doesn’t fit well, cut off any extra gathered material as needed until it does fit correctly.

Glue (E500) the dominos into place around the outside of the box one pair at a time, fit a rubber band around the outside of the dominos once they’re in place to hold the dominos until dry.
