Tiger,
Tiger Burning Bright

Created by Karen Bourke

Directions: Take a 6” x 6” canvas and prepare by randomly painting with soft green acrylic paint. When dry;  paint or stamp, various shaped leaves in coordinating shades of green to cover the canvas leaving some white spaces between the leaves. Do not forget to include the sides of the canvas at this stage.

When completely dry paint patches of red/orange, using either a brush pen or acrylic paint, in the centre of the canvas to imitate flames. When dry cover these areas of red/orange with Glossy Accents or similar to give a dimensional look. Set aside to dry. See Photo 1

Cut a piece of parchment the same size as your canvas and paint, or stamp, random patterns of leaves in various shades of green. When dry cut out the centre area where the tiger will be and then carefully cut around the leaf shapes, cutting into the corners. Take a pencil (or similar object) and roll your cut out leaf shapes around it so that they curl outwards as if there had been an explosion from behind. This will represent the flames at the end of the project. See Photo 2

Using the Krafty Lady Art Mould Alphabet Tiles and red Fimo make all the letter tiles needed for the words Tiger Tiger Burning Bright, bake in the oven according to the manufacturers instructions and set aside to cool. Puddle some gold mixative alcohol ink onto a sheet of acetate and mix in some blending solution. Using a fine tipped brush apply the ink to the sides of each of the tiles and then to the letter on the top of the tile and finally brush gently over the faux text to highlight it. See Photo 3

Using black Staz-On ink stamp the tiger onto white cardstock and colour in the image with gel pens and Sharpies. Cut out the tiger taking great care when cutting around the “flames”. Apply a coat of Glossy Accents and set aside to dry. Gently mould over a cylinder making sure the coating does not crack. Apply the Glossy Accents twice more to give a deep glossy coat to the tiger. See Photo 4

Apply a thin trickle of Glossy Accents around the top edges of the canvas and glue on the parchment. When this has dried apply double sided tape around the top edges of the parchment and glue green ribbon around the four sides. Puddle some red alcohol ink onto the piece of acetate and thin with blending solution. Brush this onto the inside of the curled parchment leaves so they resemble flames.  See Photo 5

Space out your fimo letter tiles and then glue into place on top of the green ribbon. Place a good amount of silicone glue onto the centre of the canvas and gently place your tiger image on top. See Photo 6
