“Lilac
Dreams of Mom”
Mini Picture Screen by Deirdre
For this spontaneous domino
art theme I picked a morning to go with the first thing I thought about
when I woke up … that morning the first thing I did was try to get back
thoughts of a dream I was in the middle of. I couldn’t remember too much
of it, but it made me think of my Mom. So I went with that! My Mom loved
lilacs, made my Dad stop on the highway sometimes to pick wild lilacs for
her, and the words I included on this project are from her favorite church
song. So the soft purples and the lilacs with the sweet words all remind
me of her….
For this project start with a light purple colored tissue paper. Tape one
sheet of tissue paper to a piece of regular copy or computer paper. Find
free images online of pink and purple lilacs and save them to your
computer. Place the tissue covered piece of paper into the printer and
print 2 lilac images sized 1’ x 2”.
See Picture 1

Remove the tissue paper from the copy paper and lay it out on its own.
Tear around the edges of the lilac pictures until they will fit nicely
onto the back of a domino, leaving the edges ragged.
Spread decoupage’ glue mixed with a few drops of water over the back of a
domino and gently press a lilac tissue picture into place. Use scraps of
the purple tissue and glue them onto random places on the sides of the
domino. Repeat the process with a second domino and the other lilac
picture. Let dry.

Glue (E500) a small hinge (local craft store) into place on the sides of
the two dominos. Let dry.

While that dries head back to the computer and print out a classic picture
of Mom, the same 1’ x 2” size. Next, open any Word program or Notepad
program and use an interesting font to type an expression or words from a
song - something special that means something to you or reminds you of
your Mom. Preview your words before printing to make sure they will fit on
a 1’ x 2” space then print.
See Picture 4

Use scissors to round off the edges of the two pictures and trim them down
if need be. Cover the inside of both dominos with double sided sticky tape
then press pictures into place on the insides of the hinged dominos. Let
dry.
