“Crazy
Caitie Doll” by Bean
When Leigh asked for us to do ‘something’ with whatever first came to
mind, I looked over at my workspace and thought... 'Need to clean this
space up before I do anything!'
With that being said, I noticed the 3,000 clay faces I had made last month
for something that I absolutely HAD to make right then... And the 40 pairs
of mismatched earrings I had picked up at the local Thrift Store because
you never know when you might need a little dangly for something... And
the 8 million pre-drilled dominos that you might as well do 8 million if
you are going to do one... Not to mention the 52 vials of glass beads that
had been a garage sale treasure, all 52 for 2.00. Thus is the way of
inspiration. It comes to us in many ways, mine happens to usually come in
the midst of chaos.
I made a point of NOT buying anything new as well as digging through
numerous drawers and turning the house upside down for that 'perfect'
thing to finish it off with, just using what was on my table. What a
difficult chore!
So this is what I did...
I found a lovely pair of dangly earrings that looked just like legs to me!
I shortened one to make them just a tad different and attached them to
jump rings to later attach through the holes in the pre-drilled mini
domino.
I stamped the top half of the mini domino with part of the 'Life'
definition stamp by Hero Arts with black StazOn ink (Tsukineko). I sponged
some StazOn red on the bottom half (the only 2 inks on my table at the
time!) and wrapped some gold embroidery floss around the center, securing
with Judikins Diamond glaze.
2 buttons screamed out to me as I was sorting through my bead-treasures
and I thought, ‘Aha! What nice arms you have my lovely!’ The buttons were
soon strung onto wire and attached to the mini domino through a
pre-drilled hole.
Once the arms were on, I attached the legs with the jump rings. She was
lovely at this point but headless. Spotting the chalks and a few pots of
Lumiere paint (Jacquard), I colored the face of one of my many clay
creations. Lips were ruby of course... with perfectly pink blushing cheeks
as she was really a shy flower. Once she had a distinct personality, hair
became a must. Back out came the beads, and stringing an assortment onto
gold wire, her hair began to take shape. I had poked holes into my clay
head before baking, so I simply put dots of Elmers glue into the holes and
held the wire ends until they had set.
I lightly sprayed the whole creation with 2 coats of Krylon matte finish
and added a pin back with Elmers glue.
