“Bahamian Daydream”
Featuring a Stamped Domino and Photography Stamp
by Stephanie Loomis

When Leigh issued a challenge for spontaneous art, I nearly fell off my chair. Who has time for spontaneity in this busy world? Still, I took a few moments and recalled how to clear my mind (one of the few things I can still do from all those years of yoga) by focusing on my breathing. As I slipped deeper into that introspective state that just precedes sleep, I found my heart rate slowing and my breathing deepen. My body relaxed and I just sat. I always have a fan running in my studio, and the breeze from that fan and the hum of the a/c just outside the window took me to the most relaxing place I have ever known: a hammock between two palms overlooking the Caribbean. Just recalling that moment helped me stay relaxed for the remainder of the day.

To re-create that tranquility, I chose to create a card featuring a photo stamp of a picture I took on that Caribbean vacation. The title of the card is “Peace.” The completed card may stay in my studio as a reminder to breathe now and then……ahhhhhhh.

1. Begin by folding a 10” x 7” piece of cardstock in half to create a 5” x 7” note card.

2. Cut a piece of gold paper (Marcos Papers) to 5” x 7”

3. Stamp “Bahamian Daydream” (The Stamping Studio, photography stamps by Stephanie Loomis) on vellum (California Paper Auction) with Jet Black Staz-On ink (Stewart Superior.) Set aside to dry completely.

4. Stamp the palm tree (The Stamping Studio) six times on distressed tan/orange paper (Daisy D)

5. Cut out each palm tree. Embroidery scissors or the smallest KAI scissors work best with the detail.

6. Color trees with chalk (I Kan Dee: earth tones, basic brights and shimmer)

7. Color reverse side of the beach scene with heavy handed chalk. Tear vellum to form a ½” border around the image. Run through a Xyron to add adhesive and apply to the center of the gold cardstock.

8. Highlight the beach with shimmer chalks.

9. Use Dimensional Magic (Plaid) to attach two trees to each side of the image as shown (begin with the “tallest” tree.)

10. Cut a section of Magic Mesh and form into a hammock attached it to the remaining two trees. Attach assemblage to card with white glue.

11. Highlight palm trees with Dimensional Magic (this will also seal the chalk.)

12. Stamp “peace” (The Stamping Studio) on a small domino with Azure Staz-On ink.

13. Use white glue to attach domino to the top portion of the card and highlight letters with Dimensional Magic.

14. Use Dimensional Magic to add Elementals (Outrageous Daisy) for coconuts and to the bottom border of the card.

15. Sit back and dream of fruity drinks, calypso music and the fragrance of salty ocean air.
