Asian
Butterflies by Daylene Strickland
For this card, only 3 colors and patterns were used to make a design with
the Bargello technique. Color a sheet of glossy white cardstock with Santa
Fe Red Piñata alcohol ink using Clarifying extender to blend. Stamp images
randomly with archival black ink. (Butterfly by Sunday International;
lantern by Judikins; fan by Magenta; coin by ANM). Spray with fixative;
set aside. On black cardstock stamp Asian print (Posh Impressions) using
gold Encore ink. Heat set and spray with a fixative. The third paper
choice is gold Mogami paper.
Optional but easier; apply double-sided adhesive to each large section
before trimming. Cut red stamped paper in order into strips measuring ¾”,
½” ¼” ¼” ½” and ¾”. Trim 5 equal size pieces of 1/8” black stamped
cardstock. Trim 5 equal size pieces of ¼” gold Mogami paper. Tip: If
available, use a single width shredder to cut even ¼” strips easily.
On separate black cardstock begin with red colored piece, then add strip
of gold, and follow with strip of stamped black. Repeat the pattern ending
with red piece. When complete you’ll have a completed square.
See Picture.

Apply double-sided adhesive. Flip ½ turn (stripes are horizontal) and trim
6 strips in order measuring ¾”, ½” ¼”, ¼” ½” ¾”. Number the colored pieces
on the back to “puzzle” them in order before application. Layer these on
separate black cardstock panel side-by-side moving each strip up one step
using the gold paper as a guide. After the center is completed, begin
layering downward to complete the design. Emboss 3 butterflies (Judikins
Egyptian Gold) and layer on top with gold cord and layer of gold cardstock
on red card.
