Floral Pop
Out Panel Card by Linda Strawn

I was taught how to do this card design from a dear friend Barbara
Studebaker who taught it at a class at my store. It is a real crowd
pleaser and everyone always wants to know how to do it. So let’s get
started.
Cut 2 pieces of glossy 8-1/2" x 11" white cardstock in half, this will
leave you with 4 pieces of paper. We will be stippling all four but only 3
will be used to construct our card.
Also cut 2 pieces of 8-1/2" x 11" light green cardstock in half and we
will be using only 3 pieces.
1. Fold all three pieces of green cardstock in half, opening should be to
the right. Set aside.
2. On each piece of white glossy, using a stipple brush and Adirondack
inks, starting with butterscotch stipple onto glossy paper, next use
terracotta, then lettuce, add a bit of cranberry, and stipple to blend all
colors ginger. Repeat for all 4 pieces. We will be using only 3 pieces to
form our card,

for how your finished paper should look.
3. The stamping on the panels is a direct to rubber technique; The stamps
used in the sample are as follows
Scented Storkes #2677K by Penny Black
Winged Angel #2672F by Penny Black
# Different flower heads #95864J, 95861MM, 95887MM from Inkadinkadoo
Script flower #E4165 from Hero Arts
Heart Flower #E4163 from Hero Arts
Big Flower Note #E2689 from Hero Arts
Small Foliage #E320 from Great Impressions
Frame Dragonfly #H1927 from A Stamp in the Hand
Oak Leaf #H-1295 from a Stamp in the Hand
Background Text Thin #O 1771 from a Stamp in the Hand
Alphabet Sq Hands #O1924 frame A Stamp in the Hand
Shrine Frame #R2060 from A Stamp in the Hand
You can use any floral stamps you desire.
4. Use brush markers to color in your stamps, flip them over and color the
stamp, then huff on them a few times to moisten the inks and stamp onto
your stippled panels.

for how I stamped the
panels. Use a frame stamp for the center panel and stamp a flower head in
the center masking the frame if needed. Stamp some script in brown right
over the images; See picture 2, 3 and 4. 5. Use a gold leaf pen and edge all the panels.
6. When all panels are stamped fold panels in half, open up and reverse
the folds, this will leave you with a fold down the center, and fold both
ends to the center crease. This will leave you with four equal folds. For
the first panel pop out, fold side to the middle and make a cut top and
bottom of an image and fold each side, creasing well,
See Pictures 5

If you want the fold to pop out like a mountain fold as in first panel use
picture 5 as your folding guide. If you want the image to pop in like a
valley fold, as in center frame, use

as your folding guide.
7. Make several of the images pop in or out, see pictures 2, 3, and 4 as
your guides; I made the center shrine image fold in using a valley fold.
You can have as few or as many images pop as desired.
8. Now we will assemble the card. For all panels the center main fold will
be a mountain fold.
9. Glue panels to green cardstock by applying adhesive to each panel end,
matching edges, making sure to not glue down any of your pop outs and
leaving center mountain fold free. If you want to tie your card closed add
about 6” of ribbon to the left center of panel 1 and the right center of
panel 3. Glue all three panels to green cards .
See Pictures 7

and
See Pictures 8

This will leave you with 3 separate panels glued to green card.
10. To assemble card, glue back side of card 1 to front side of card 2,
and glue back side of card 2 to front side of card 3. This will complete
the assembly of your card, see pictures 7-8.
11. Decorate the front, stamp a frame onto glossy cardstock, cut out and
stamp a floral design onto unused piece of stippled cardstock and glue
frame over image. Tear a piece of handmade floral paper and glue down the
left side of front, add frame image. I set an eyelet into top of frame and
added ribbons and a charm to complete my front. See front picture.
Embellish the flower centers with buttons, and spiral swirls. See pictures 2, 3
and 4
Note: Remember you can have any image pop out or in, the design is up to
you, have fun with this project and sit back and listen to the complements
on your card.
