Dance, Sing, Play
Altered Book Spread by Kathy Stoffel
1. Select
a book to alter, open a 2-page spread and glue 5 pages together on either
side using a glue stick.
2. Brush gesso onto the open pages and let dry.
3. Paint the background using Golden glaze (taupe).
4. Fold a piece of music so that it fits off-center into the crease of
your book pages and glue using PVA or gel medium.
5. Paint over the music and painted pages using Golden’s glaze (ivory).
6. Make two transfers from any of the pictures from the Music collage
sheet available at
Creative Chaos Artistic Rubber Stamps (http://www.vickieenkoff.com)
by brushing on 3 layers of Omni Gel (horizontally, vertically,
diagonally). After the final layer is dry, soak the picture in water for a
minute and roll off the paper being careful not to tear the gel transfer
or rub off the image. If you have trouble getting all the tiny bits of
paper off, brush a little ivory glaze on the back.
7. Glue the transfers on the altered book spread using Omni gel, gel
medium or PVA glue.
8. Brush on a layer of Golden glaze (blue opal) over the music.
9. Stamp the dance image off the lower left and upper right edges of the
pages using Staz-On ink. Stamp the dance quote and the ‘play’ phrase from
Creative Chaos Dance M304 ( http://www.vickieenkoff.com ) unmounted stamp
set.
10. Using letter stamps, a stencil or by printing free-hand, add the word
‘SING’.
11. Add a border to the transfers with Golden glaze (metallic bronze).
12. Draw a note, cut it out and glue it in place.
13. Ink some color onto the raw edges of the book by directly applying
from an inkpad.
14. Let your spread dry thoroughly before closing the book. Seal with
Microglaze or Dorland’s wax medium.
