Faraway Dreams by Viki Banaszak

This Month's Sponsor:

Stamp Faraway Dreams (#M420 Vickie Enkoff) onto white cardstock using permanent ink. Color using Prismacolor pencils. Paint on Omni-Gel (Houston Art) on the surface of your image using a sponge or brush. First go horizontally, then vertically and lastly diagonally, allowing it to dry in between coats.

Place the piece in water to soak for about ten to twenty minutes, depending on the thickness of the paper that you stamped on. Lay the print face down on a piece of vinyl to help keep it from tearing as you rub the paper off the back. Gently rub with a damp cloth to remove the last of the paper lint. Put some Omni-Gel on a piece of wire mesh and attach your print. Then coat the piece with more Omni-Gel.

Use a needle tool to make a couple holes to thread a necklace of beads at the collar of the image. Cover the edges of the mesh with copper tape.

Remove a petal from an old vegetable steamer and attach as a crown using copper wire. Add a copper star eyelet in the center and a fleur-de-lis charm at the top.

Cut a tin that has a nice design using tin snips. Wearing gloves is optional but highly recommended. Punch holes in the corners of the mesh and the tin with the Cropodile by We R Memory Keepers. It punches through the tin like butter. Also, mark the spot that the star on the crown will be and punch a hole in the tin to attach the crown. Attach the mesh transfer to the tin piece with eyelets. Use a tiny snip of copper wire to attach the crown to the tin by hammering it on an anvil until the ends flare out enough to hold the crown in place. Add copper tape to the edges of the tin. You are almost done.

Punch two more holes near the top corners and attach two copper star eyelets in their place. Twist a piece of heavy gauge copper wire (from the hardware store) into a loop to make a hanger. This will take some strength and determination. You could use a lighter gauge if you wish. Bend the ends to meet the star eyelets. Lay the wire on your anvil and hammer it to flatten it out. Slip the ends of the wire through the eyelets and bend upwards. Use a bit more hammering to shape it as desired.
