String Painting by Teapot (Marian McBride)

"String Painting" is a fun way to introduce children to color and art. However, this simple technique produces fabulous backgrounds for your rubber stamping projects. While easy to do, it is quite messy.

Example Supplies:
Stamps: TAC-The Angel Company: "Haute Couture"
Paints: Folk Art "Metallic Red" and "Metallic Aluminum" and Plaid "Black Enamel"
Cardstock: Bazzill
Inks: Twinkling H20s - "Ruby Red" and "Hot Cinnamon"

Project Supplies:
* Cardstock color of your choice. Don't be afraid to use dark cardstock! These make stunning backgrounds when using bright and metallic paints
* String, rope, twine or anything of your choice. Using different thickness adds more dimension to your background.
* Paints: Tempera paint; Acrylic Paint; Reinker
* Small plastic bowls for your paint
* Covered surface
* Gloves

What You Do:
1. Select your paint colors. It's really fun to have more than one string with different colors. 2. Select your cardstock color and size. Fold cardstock in half and then reopen; 3. Take your piece of string and submerge 3/4 of it in the paint leaving an end free of paint to hold on to; 4. Lay the paint covered string on one side of the folded paper in any type pattern, leaving the clean end of the string out so you can hold on to it. 5. Then fold the paper back together and put your hand on the paper so you can feel the string through the paper and begin pulling the string out moving it around the edges of the paper. 6. Variations: "Paint" with one string color at a time, letting dry and then "paint" with another color. Instead of folding your cardstock and pulling the string through the paper, lay paper flat and paint with your string, dropping onto paper, swirling around, etc. Mainly, just have fun!
