FABRIC POSTCARD By Karen Bourke Click here for a larger view of this project.

Take a plain piece of cotton fabric which will be the base for your fabric postcard. It will eventually be 6” x 4” in size. Cut out the image for your postcard and position on the fabric and stitch the appliqué design on either by free stitching or machine sewing.

Cut a piece of wadding† larger than 6” x 4” and using fusible webbing,‡ iron on to the piece of cotton.

Using your sewing machine quilt the postcard.

© Karen Bourke  At this stage sew beads onto the flowers to represent the stamens.

Take another piece of cotton to use as the back of the postcard and using fusible webbing iron onto the postcard. Trim the fabric so you have a postcard of 6” x 4”. Seal the edges of the postcard by stitching or binding. Use a dark Sakura pen to draw a line down the middle of the back of the postcard and write “Postcard” across the middle.

To finish add ribbon around the outside edge of the postcard and a jewel at each corner. (See photo at top.)
