V is for Valentine
by
Lis Whiting

Create the base for your Card:
To create the paper that the card front is made of, we will need to make SERENDIPITY PAPER. Serendipity paper is made by gluing strips or bits of leftover papers from other projects to a base (usually plain cardstock – I have used 110 pound ivory cardstock.) Since this will be a Valentine’s Day card, include traditional red, pink and gold. Include non-traditional colors like blue. (Penny Black used here.) Include sepia for an old-fashioned look. Glue the strips of paper on the base randomly.

An Accucut die is used to cut the “V” (Roman Uppercase – 4”). Place the serendipity paper over the die so that it covers the “V”. Use a coordinated piece of colored cardstock for the back of your card. You will cut out both the front and the back of the card at the same time.

When you take the die cuts out, be careful of the inside of the “V”. Cut this off. You will need the colorful part for your heart.

The Front of the Card:
Match up the front and back of the card. Punch a 1/8 round hole at the top left and top right in the front card. Line up the front and back and punch one hole only on the LEFT in the back card. Set the back of card aside.

Set a gold eyelet on the right hole. Cut the waste from the “V” die cut into a primitive heart shape. Punch a 1/8” hole in the top left part of the heart. Add a gold eyelet to this hole also.

Take 7 inches of 22 gauge red metallic artist wire and make a loop at one end. Attach the wire to the V (right side only). Twist the wire together to secure the loop. String the heart onto the wire from the back. Wrap the wire around the heart starting at the top and ending at the bottom (back side). Tape the end to the back of the heart. Check the heart to make sure that it hangs straight down from the top of the “V” where it is fastened.

Take a chipboard “V” (1 inch). (It doesn’t matter what the color is as we will be glittering it.) The chipboard “V” doesn’t have to be the same font as the card. Attach some double stick tap eot your finger and pick up this small “V” from the back. Spread glue [Aleene’s Thick Designer Tacky Glue] with your other hand-finger over the top front of the “V”. Dip the “V” in red ultra fine glitter to cover. Attach with glue dots to front of “V” card on the left when dry.

Put Your Card Together:
Line up the front and back of your card. Add a gold eyelet to the left front of your card to fasten both sides together. Take an embossing stylus and score a line about 1/16 to 1/8 inch to the right of the left eyelet. This fold will be used to open the card.
