Year of the Boar Hexagon

Using a graphics program,
make a simple 6-sided figure that's no more than 4.25" wide, and print out
on a piece of copy paper. Attach a pre-folded piece of black cardstock to
the back of the hexagon, lining up the folded side with one of the edges
of the hexagon. Mark that side "do not cut" on the front.

Cut out the other five sides with a ruler and Xacto knife: you now have
your base cardstock.

Now mark 1/4" all around and cut out the center--you'll be left with a
1/4" thin black strip on the front of the card. Cut a full-size hexagon
out of gold cardstock, then mark it to 1/2" and cut out the middle. Trim
each outer edge just slightly to ensure that it will fit behind the outer
black strip, yet still allow the card to fold and close nicely. Attach to
black strip with double-sided 1/4" tape. Make sure gold faces outwards.
Using the inside hexagons, further cut two more hexagons: one of gold
cardstock that's 1/4" smaller than the outer gold one, and a black hexagon
that's 1/4" smaller than the smallest gold hexagon.
On a piece of semi-gloss white cardstock, spread Piñata Magenta and Ranger
Cranberry Alcohol inks until you have a fiery red background. When dry,
stamp with Art Neko hexagonal "Year of the Boar" stamp. Emboss with Ranger
Princess Gold embossing powder, and cut all around leaving a nice edge.
Use red and gold markers to cover the white of any cardstock, and then
mount the red piece on the black piece using 3-D tape. Mount the black
piece to the gold piece with double-stick tape, then mount that to the
inside of the card, centering well, with more 3-D tape.

To make the closure, stamp the Art Neko Double Happiness Boar onto white
shrink plastic with black StazOn and let dry. Cut out with scissors
leaving a small margin all around the stamp, then heat with a heat gun.
Ensure it is flat by covering with an acrylic block or a large
wood-mounted stamp while still hot. Let cool, then spritz with rubbing
alcohol and drop 2-3 drops of Ranger Cranberry Alcohol ink and let it
spread. Use a paintbrush to cover the sides, being careful not to touch
the ink.
Take a gold spiral paper clip and force the middle ring upwards a bit.

Cover the center ring with E6000 glue, then mount onto
back of boar.

When dry, use to gently clip the
side opposite the fold to hold the card closed. Write your message on the
back of the gold cardstock hexagon on the inside front flap, and Happy
Chinese New Year!
