Plexiglas Cuff Bracelet by Mary Lind

Click here for a larger view of this project

Use jeweler’s saw to cut out a piece of Plexiglas 2 inches wide by 7 inches long for a large bracelet (6 inches long for small bracelet). My Plexiglas was 1/8th inch thick.

Sand all sides and edges of Plexiglas.

Stamp Plexiglas using Hearts in Touch ATC Posters stamps with black Staz-On. Only about 1/3 of each image will fit on cuff. I fit 3 ATC stamps across width of 7 inch long Plexiglas. Set ink with heat gun.

Color images using Sharpie markers (for bold effects) and/or colored pencils (for subtle effects). Blend color between images.

Heat at a 300 degree F oven for about 7 minutes on a sheet of tin foil inside a covered pan. (This is the covered pan I use for my polymer clay projects, not for food.) Wearing potholders, wrap hot Plexiglas (colored side out) around a heatproof cylindrical object a little larger than your wrist. I used an 8 oz tin can. Make sure you leave a large enough opening in back to be able to slip the bracelet on later.

No matter how tempting, don’t try on hot bracelet. Allow to cool completely.

Note: Bracelet can be reheated to adjust shape/fit; however, ink may smear or fade when reheated.

Color edges of bracelet using a Krylon Metallic paint pen. Seal bracelet using acrylic spray.

Project inspired by DIY Network show B. Original

Plexiglas Barrette

Use jeweler’s saw to cut out a piece of Plexiglas 2 inches wide by 4 inches long for a large barrette. My Plexiglas was 1/8th inch thick.

Sand all sides and edges of Plexiglas.

Stamp Plexiglas using “Klimt Wallpaper” stamp with black Staz-On. Set ink with heat gun.

Color images using Sharpie markers (for bold effects).

Heat at a 300 degree oven for about 7 minutes on a sheet of tin foil inside a covered pan. (This is the covered pan I use for my polymer clay projects, not for food.) Wearing potholders, press hot Plexiglas (colored side out) to curve slightly to fit a 4 inch barrette blank. Allow to cool completely.

Color edges of barrette using a Krylon metallic paint pen. Seal barrette using acrylic spray.
