Black, Gold & Red Drop Earrings by Daylene Strickland

Punch two oval shapes from black shrink plastic; (oval punch approximately 2”).  Punch holes in each end of the ovals using a 1/8” inch punch.  Stamp design image (Stubby Stampers) with Brilliance Galaxy Gold (Tsukineko) on plastic.  Use heat tool to shrink plastic.  After it has completely shrunk continuing heating and shape ovals with slight curve.  (Take care as plastic is very hot.)  Note:  Plastic may be reheated many times over to achieve the desired results as it cools very quickly. Use thin strips of Peel ‘N Stick double-sided adhesive for edges of plastic to apply micro gold beads.  Add two coats of gloss spray sealer.  Add jump rings, beads and earring holders.  (When complete, earrings are approximately 3/4” in length plus the bead and hanger.)

Dragonflies in Gold by Heather Taylor

Cut a piece of black glossy cardstock to 7"x 6.25", and fold in half lengthwise. Attach a 3"x 5.75" piece of Thai handmade paper (black and gold) with double-sided adhesive. Adhere cutout of Paula Best dragonfly stamp (stamped with Encore Metallic gold and embossed in clear on black gloss). Cut a rectangular-shaped piece of black shrink plastic and rub interference violet Pearl Ex onto it with your finger. Ink Innovative Stamp Creations texture stamp with Encore gold ink to get it ready, then heat shrink plastic with a heat gun (I hold it in place with my Exacto knife while it's curling up). As soon as the piece has shrunk all it's going to, stamp with the texture stamp and hold in place a few seconds until the piece has cooled. Edge with gold Krylon leafing pen. Attach to card with E6000 glue. Glue 2 little dragonfly charms as well.

Seashell Mosaic by Daylene Strickland

Randomly stamp seashell images on 6” x 6” piece of black shrink plastic using various Brilliance Pearlescent Inks (Sky Blue, Yellow, Lime, Orange, Purple, Orchid, Coral all by Tsukineko).  (Images:  starfish, dotted shell, rounded shell by Anita’s; Nautilus, pink shell by PSX; small shell by Inkadinkadoo; clam unknown)  Without touching inked areas trim into random shapes using decorative scissors (Deckle).  Shrink each piece and flatten.  Coat with glassy glaze and allow to dry (Glossy Accents).   Dip edges in clear drying glue then into sand and allow to dry.  Trim a piece of double-sided adhesive sheet approximately ½” larger than mosaic area.  Peel away backing from one side and adhere to tan cardstock.  Peel remaining protective backing and layer mosaic pieces.  Fill and cover with sand.  Trim piece with decorative scissors (Wave).  Mount to turquoise cardstock and then to layer of tan stamped in black ink with “Memories”.  (Posh Impressions/All Night Media)  Layer on slightly larger piece of black and turquoise cardstock.  Embellish with tiny seashells.  Finished card is 5” x 5”.

Native Mask and Fru Fru Pink earrings plus glove embellishments by Nancy Thaut

Black shrink plastic was a new experience for me so I wanted to try several things.

The first was the pink fru fru earrings. I cut 2 - 2² squares of plastic. I punched holes in the corner of the square and carefully laid out the fru fru opal flakes onto the plastic and place into the oven, on a piece of paper bag and the bottom side of a glass pie pan at 275 until it curled, flattened, and then I pressed with a wood block to get completely flattened.. I then painted, 2 coats, of 3-D Pink Crystal Lacquer.

The Native Mask earrings are also made from 2 - 2² squares of shrink plastic. I punched holes for earrings and rounded 3 corners with a clipper. The mask is a homemade stamp which was stamped in Brilliance Pearlescent Ice Blue Pigment Ink. The shrinking was done with a heat gun. Once it flattened, I pressed a wood block on top for final flattening. I then went around the outside piece with a Krylon Silver leafing pen.

The glove was stamped with Brilliance Pearlescent Beige ink with the stamp by Innovative Stamp Creations. I punched a larger hole for these as I plan to use them for hanging embellishments. I colored the glove with Sakura gelly roll pens and used a heat gun for shrinking.

The difference I found between shrinking in the oven or heat gun was that the finished product was harder, in the oven, to get the center to flatten (the heat didn¹t seem to get to it as evenly as the heat gun did).

Abstract Art Pins by Susan Chong

Pin on the left:
*With decorative scissors cut random strips of black shrink plastic. Vary the widths between 3/4th inch and 1-1/2 inch. Vary length from 3-5 inches.
*Weave into an abstract pattern. Using your heat gun, shrink the plastic. You may have to stop during the shrinking process to rearrange your pattern. (be careful! the plastic will be HOT!)
*After the shrinking process is complete ---- keep the heat gun on and slowly sprinkle a combination of gold and magenta colored embossing powders over the piece and continue melting the powders until you achieve the look you want.
*After the piece has cooled, randomly apply sticky-backed gems to pin.
*Glue on pinback.

Pin on the right:
*Cut a full sheet of black shrink plastic in half.
*Apply several drops of Mica Magic Blue, Purple, Pearl, and Copper reinkers on to black shrink plastic. With a sponge, tap inks over entire piece of plastic. (Use an up and down motion, not a smearing motion) Allow to dry completely. This may take several hours depending on the thickness of your ink.
*Cut ink-covered plastic into random geometric shapes. Sizes ranging from 2-5 inches in height and width.
*Shrink plastic with heat gun and allow to cool.
*Edge the cooled pieces with Marvy Metallic Markers in Copper, Blue, and Purple.
*Glue desired pieces together forming a random pattern.
*Glue on pinback.

Iridescent Hair Barrette by Daylene Strickland

Trim a piece of black shrink plastic to 4-1/4” x 7-1/2”; use a rounded decorative corner punch for corners to avoid sharp points.  Paint light strokes of iridescent calligraphy ink to cover most of the plastic.  (Dr. Ph. Martin’s Iridescent Blue & Violet were used.)  Shrink plastic slightly curling it to fit the size of metal barrette holder (approximately 3-1/2”).  Sponge edges with Brilliance Sterling Silver ink (Tsukineko) and heat set.  On separate sheet of black shrink plastic stamp butterfly image (Magenta) and allow to dry overnight.  Trim and shrink slightly curling to fit the top of the barrette.  Glue butterfly and metal barrette holder in place with E6000.  Spray with 2 coats of gloss sealer.  Add beads with E6000.
