Going Bananas Domino Shaker Box Lid by Susan Chong

SHAKER BOX FAIRY Necklace by Deirdre

Start with a brand new domino straight from the box and stamp Dust Fairy Fly (Third Coast) in Black StazOn ink (Tsukineko) onto the domino. Heat set the image with a heat gun. Use Sharpie markers to color the image and use pinks and blues for the background.

Spray the domino with fixative (Krylon) and then with a sealant (Krylon).

Place the domino on a piece of purple card stock and trace around it. Cut out the shape and the inside to make a frame with an Xacto knife. Trace the outline of the domino onto a transparency sheet and cut out the shape. Glue the transparency to one side of the cut frame.

Lay the frame down with the transparency sheet facing up and cut mounting tape to fit all around the edge of the frame, be sure not to leave any gaps. Then follow with a second layer, leaving the protective paper on the tape.

Place some pink and blue seed beads onto the middle of the transparency sheet inside the frame. Now remove the paper from the mounting tape and press the domino face down onto the taped frame being sure to line up the edges.

Cut a piece of purple ribbon to wrap around the edge of the frame, making sure to cover the mounting tape and glue it into place.

Use E500 glue to attach a silver bead to the top of the domino for a bale. Let it dry overnight and then run purple ribbon through the bead and attach coiled crimp beads to the ribbon ends with toggle clasps to finish the necklace off, secure the coiled crimps with pliers.

“Forever Friends” Friendship Fridge Magnets by Paula Snaith-Morris

Begin by stamping portions of a larger image (Alma Lynne Designs by
Inkadinkado) onto two super-sized dominoes using coal black Ancient Page dye ink (ClearSnap) and then heat set. Color in the images with Sharpie markers. Next edge both dominoes with double-sided adhesive foam mounting tape to create raised edges for the shaker boxes. Measure the size of the shaker boxes and cut two pieces of acetate for the windows with scissors. Sprinkle microbeads and star confetti into each shaker box frame. Remove the paper from the adhesive and apply the clear acetate. Edge the front of each shaker box domino with 3 mm silk ribbon to hide the mounting tape. Cut two lengths of colour coordinating eyelash fiber and adhere to the sides of each domino with Aleene's Tacky glue ending with a tassel at the base of the dominoes. Embellish each corner of the shaker box dominoes with tiny flower shaped beads. Glue the beads in place with tacky glue and also thread on 3 heart shaped beads to the eyelash fiber tassels and secure with a knot at the ends. Once everything has dried glue heavy duty magnets to the back of each domino with super glue.

Gift idea ~ I will be sending these 2 magnets to my niece (8 years old) who lives in South Africa. I'm going to tell her to keep one and give the other to her best friend and then they'll both have one and that the friendship magnets mean they will stay “forever friends”.

Sisters Sewing Box by Lis Whiting

To make the domino background, start with six dominos. Prepare the backs and sides by sanding them until the shiny surface is gone. Ordinarily you would not color the edges of the dominos until the end however we are going to glue these together before stamping so the sides need to be colored first using a gold paint pen. Do not color any side that won’t show but be sure to color the corners well. To test, put the dominos together and look at where they join to make sure that the domino base doesn't show on the edges. Place the six dominos in two lines of three. Next color dust the center of the dominos in Rose Marie dye ink [Marvy] and then color dust the outer parts of the dominos in ochre dye ink [Marvy]. Heat set the inks.

Glue all six dominos together using your preferred glue for plastics. I used Aleene’s Thick Designer Tacky Glue. E6000 is also good for this. Let the glue dry well before proceeding (overnight).

Stamp “Bashford Girls” [Stampington & Company] on the six dominos in black StazOn solvent ink (Tsukineko).

Create the shaker box:
The shaker box takes up the lower two thirds of the dominos. Measure the area and then cut out a piece of acetate or transparency (2” x 1 3/8”) Place two strips of mounting tape on each side (on the back) of the transparency piece. Place 5-6 small pearlized buttons on the dominos where the shaker box will go. Take the transparency with mounting tape and carefully place it over the buttons and on the dominos. Press to seal. Use gold paint pen to outline the shaker box. This will hide the mounting tape. Use extra buttons to decorate the dominos. Add pearls to the edge of the shaker box. Attach hanger to the back of the domino shaker box and hang.

Sprinkle Fairy Dust Box by Stephanie Loomis

Clean a square domino with an alcohol wipe. Stamp Fairy (The Stamping Studio) onto the domino with any kind of pigment ink. Cover the pigment ink with Black Sparkle embossing powder (Personal Stamp Exchange) and heat to melt the embossing powder. Color the background with a blue Sharpie and the fairy with a flesh colored fabric marker. Color the dress and wings with Gel pens (Sakura).

Cut a tag shape from textured salmon cardstock (Bazzil) using a Sizzix die cutter. Stamp the sentiment (TSS) with Palette Beaux Arts Blue ink (Stewart Superior). Add self-adhesive foam tape around the edges of the domino to build the frame for the shaker box. Fill the shaker box hole with Fru Fru (Art Sanctum/Penny Wise Arts). Cut a 2" x 2" piece of acetate and adhere it to the foam tape. Add ribbon to the shaker box top (to cover the foam tape), leaving enough to tie the tag to as shown.

"Floral Cameo" Magnetic Shaker Box Domino by Val Snaith, Reader Submission

Start with a super-sized shiny domino and stamp a floral rubber stamp (source unknown) with coal black Ancient Page dye ink. Heat set the image. Colour the flowers with various Sharpie markers.

Edge the domino with self-adhesive foam mounting tape and cut a piece of acetate the same size as the domino. Sprinkle white glitter dust (local craft store) inside the mounting tape frame onto the surface of the domino. Carefully remove the paper covering the adhesive and place the acetate over the mounting tape. Press down gently around the frame to make sure the acetate has adhered properly.

Measure the inside edge of the acetate window and transfer the measurements to a piece of heavy gold cardstock (local craft store). Cut out the window with an Exacto knife. Determine the size of the border and then trim the edges of the gold cardstock with fancy edge Fiskars scissors. Position the card window over the acetate and adhere with Aleene's Tacky glue.

Adhere silver and green wired tinsel fiber to the gold cardstock with double-sided sticky tape. Then adhere a mini rose to the shaker box frame with Tacky glue and put aside to dry. At this point you could attach a pin back to the back of the shaker box domino or embellish another creation with it. I decided to turn it into a fridge magnet. I cut a piece of sheet magnet just slightly smaller than the back of the box and adhered the magnet with Tacky glue.
