‘Crystal
Star’
Flights of Fancy
by Leigh Snaith-Brunton
If you love cats and fairies then you’ll enjoy creating my Flights
of Fancy kitties. You could hang them from your ceiling on clear
nylon or create a mobile…the possibilities are endless!
1. To create this hanging ornament first drill a hole horizontally
through the top portion of the domino. Do this by first drilling
from one side to the center and then finish the hole by drilling
from the other side. One of the holes could chip if you simply drill
all the way through from one side only.
2. Ink up the Luna kitty stamp with coal black Ancient Page dye ink
by ClearSnap and stamp the image onto a new shiny white domino and
heat set with an embossing heat gun.
3. Colour the image with fine and ultra fine point Sharpie markers
from the pastel range of colours. Use dark blue and purple from the
original range and navy to shade the wings and the background.
4. Highlight areas of the design with purple and blue RoseArt
metallic permanent markers.
5. Edge and colour the sides of the domino with a broad point
metallic silver DecoColor paint pen.
6. To protect the design apply a coat of Judikins Diamond Glaze for
a glass-like finish to the surface of the domino. Do this by
dripping a few generous drops of the glaze to the surface of the
domino and quickly spreading it around with your finger. For a
thicker coat you can spread the glaze around directly from the
bottle’s detail applicator nozzle.
7. For more sparkle and to seal the sides of the domino apply a coat
of Delta CeramCoat Sparkle Glaze with a paintbrush. The glaze dries
to a clear iridescent sparkle.
8. Embellish the stamped star between the wings with a Stampendous
silver star sticker.
9. Cut 3 lengths of a fine silver wire.
10. Wire wrap 3 glass stars and twist each end around the main
portion. Apply a dab of Judikins Diamond Glaze to the wrapped wire
ends to prevent them from unraveling.
11. Adhere the wires to the back of the domino with E-6000 glue. I
covered the wires with my signature label to hide them. You could
also try hiding the wires by covering the back of the domino with
colour coordinating papers, suede paper, felt or fabric.
12. Finish off the hanging ornament by threading a length of clear
nylon (fishing line) through the holes and secure with a knot. Dab
some glue onto the knot and push the knot back inside the hole to
hide and secure it in place. |
Flights
of Fancy Siamese Cat Pin by Lis Whiting
1. Prepare the backs of four small dominos (1 1/8 x ½ x 1/8).
2. Edge all four dominos in gold [Liquid Gold by DecoColor]. Draw
the edge of the gold pen across the top edges of the dominos so that
a little of the edging shows on the top of the dominos also.
3. Position the dominos in a pinwheel design.
4. Working with one domino at a time, place industrial strength
double stick tape on one end and adhere it to the next domino. (You
may want to use E6000.)
5. Turn your domino piece over so that the pips are showing.
6. Select your rubber stamp [Third Coast] and ink with StazOn Black
[Tsukineko].
7. Place a small piece of regular double stick tape on your index
finger and use to pick up the domino piece.
8. Place the dominos on the inked stamp and press carefully to stamp
your image on the dominos. Remove the domino piece carefully from
the inked pad so as not to smudge it.
9. Peel the tape and domino piece from your finger. Peel the tape
carefully from the domino piece. Place your domino piece, stamped
side up on the table in from of you.
10. Use the following Sharpie color for the stars: bright blue.
11. Use grey and black Sharpie colors in the ultrafine point to
color in the cat’s nose, ears, tail and front paws. Start by
coloring them in grey and add the black, blending out. If you need
guidance, use Google to look for images of seal point Siamese cats.
12. Use a Gelly Roll Black Sparkle pen to add black sparkle
highlights to the cat’s nose and ear points. Use a Gelly Roll Silver
Sparkle pen to color in the moon. Use a Gelly Roll Gold Sparkle pen
to outline the cat’s wings.
13. Use the following Sharpie colors to color in the background.
Peach, Ochre, Orange, Red. Work on one domino at a time. Color the
edge in peach, then color next a portion in Ochre, then a smaller
portion in Orange and then a smaller portion in Red. (like stripes
going from the outside edge of the domino to the inside).
a. Do not color over the images.
14. Take a Q-Tip and spray the end with alcohol (91%). Dab the
dominos where the colors are to blend them out. Continue with each
domino until finished.
15. Glue a pin back onto the back of the domino piece. Since this
will be additional support for your piece, place the pin back going
diagonally across the back of the piece. |
Winged
Cat Domino Pin by Stephanie Loomis
1. Use Galaxy Gold Brilliance ink (Tsukineko) to stamp image onto
black shrink plastic (Lucky Squirrel)
2. Color the image using a Dove blender pen and Pearl Ex mica
powders (Jacquard) Use a heavy hand with the colors, as the top
layers will brush off after shrinking.
3. Bake shrink plastic according to package directions. Let cool.
4. Paint a domino with fuchsia and purple Luna Lights (Stamp Oasis).
Be free with motion and allow the paints to dictate the design.
Cover domino edges as well.
5. Lay winged cat (now shrunken and cooled) on top of painted
domino. Using a heat gun, soften the shrink plastic until the edges
curl around the domino. Let cool.
6.
Ink a practice domino (or one not suitable for use because it is
cracked et al) with black dye ink.
7. Lay amethyst and purple Angelina Heat Bondable Fibers
(Meadowbrook Inventions, Inc.) Cover with parchment paper and set
with iron (according to manufacturer directions.)
8. Secure fibers to backside of domino pin.
9. Add a touch of Dimensional Magic (Plaid) to cat wings. Let dry
completely.
10. Finish by gluing a pin finding to the back of the domino. |
‘Winged
Cats’
Domino ATC / Picture Holder
by Deirdre
1. Purchase a round wooden disc from a local craft or hardware
store. Paint the disc with silver acrylic paint. Spray with a light
coat of Krylon sealant and let dry.
(See Picture 1)

2. Line up three white standard size dominos as shown in
Picture 1

and tape them together.
3. Ink up the winged cat stamp from
Third Coast Rubber Stamps with
black ink (Staz-On). Press the dominos down on top of the inked
image and lift up carefully.
(See Picture 3)

4. Color the image using Orange, Yellow and Black sharpie markers
edging the sides with a silver paint pen (Elmer’s) Spray with a few
light coats of Krylon fixative and then follow that with a layer or
two of Krylon sealant.
(See Picture 4)

Let dry.
5. Use a hand held drill with a very thin bit to drill 3 holes
across the top of the dominos.
(See Picture 5)

Peel the tape off the back
of the dominos then carefully, but quickly, use crazy glue to glue
the dominos back together matching the stamped image lines.
6. Cut 3 pieces of 18 gauge craft wire in varying lengths, each one
at least 10 inches long. One at a time, twist the end of the wire
into a spiral with small craft pliers.
(See Picture 6)

then twist small circles down the length of the wire.
(See Picture 7)

Repeat for remaining
2 wires.
7. Spread glue (E500) across the edge of the bottom domino and press
it onto the middle of the wooden base. Place the three twisted wires
into place in the holes on top of the dominos and adjust the height
of each, until you’re happy with the look, by cutting the ends
shorter as needed. Remove the wires. Fill each hole with a few drops
of crazy glue then slide a silver spacer onto the wire and then
quickly replace the wire into the hole. Repeat with the other two
wires.
(See Picture 8)

8. Slide pictures into the wire twists or use it to display your
favorite ATC cards!! The domino base can be made using a single
domino or any domino configuration you come up with. These are easy,
pretty quick and turn out so cute!

‘Ginger
Fairy Kitty’ ~ Flights of Fancy
by Leigh Snaith-Brunton ~ The Sharpie Domino Queen
Design Team Leader
If you love cats and fairies then you’ll enjoy creating my Flights
of Fancy kitties. You could hang them from your ceiling on clear
nylon or create a mobile…the possibilities are endless!
1. Ink up the large sitting kitty fairy stamp with coal black
Ancient Page dye ink by Clearsnap and stamp the image onto a new
shiny Super-sized white domino and heat set with an embossing heat
gun.
2. Re-ink and stamp the whole image onto a sheet of acetate or
printer transparency. To set the ink either leave it for
approximately 12 hours or gently heat set with an embossing heat
gun. To much heat will make the acetate buckle but you can always
experiment….maybe your kitty fairy will like crinkled wings!
3. Colour the domino and the acetate wings with fine and ultra fine
point Sharpie markers. Leave the wing areas on the domino white!
4. Colour all the spots on the wings with a fine point DecoColor
silver metallic paint pen and add some silver dots to the background
of the domino.
5. Cut out the wings with scissors and edge with the silver paint
pen.
6. Edge and colour the sides of the domino with a broad point
metallic silver DecoColor paint pen.
7. For more sparkle and to seal the sides of the domino apply a coat
of Delta CeramCoat Sparkle Glaze with a paintbrush. The glaze dries
to a clear iridescent sparkle.
8. To protect the design and to adhere the wings to the domino apply
a coat of Judikins Diamond Glaze for a glass-like finish. Do this by
dripping a few generous drops of the glaze onto the surface of the
domino and quickly spreading it around with your finger.
9. You need to work quickly for this next step before the glaze
starts to harden! Carefully place the wings onto the domino making
sure the wings overlap the stamped wings on the domino. Give the
wings a little wiggle to make sure the glue has grabbed on nicely
and then leave alone to dry.
10. For more fantasy and sparkle embellish all the silver spots with
Diamond Sparkles glitter glue by PSX.
11. Finish off the hanging ornament by cutting a length of clear
nylon (fishing line) and forming a loop. Secure the loop with a knot
and glue to the back of the domino. To further ensure the nylon
remains in place and to hide the knot you can embellish the back of
the domino with patterned paper, suede paper, felt or fabric. |

‘Winged
Cat Panel’
by Susan Chong
1) Lay 4 Mahjong tiles onto a flat protected surface. Spray tiles
with a combination of Color Washes. (Margarita Magenta and Copper
Kettle Color Mists from Outside the Margins and Marigold Yellow
Orange Starburst Stain from Lindy’s Stamp Gang)
2) Spray a fine mist of Future Floor Wax over the Color Washes. Tilt
the tiles so the wash and wax mix is smeared randomly over the
surface. Allow to dry completely.
3) Arrange the 4 Mahjong tiles into a rectangle. 2 tiles on the top
and 2 tiles on the bottom. (See project image) Stamp Winged Cat-Med
image (Third
Coast Art Rubber Stamps) on the tiles using Black Brilliance
ink. Allow to dry.
4) Spray the same color wash combination over an orange 3x5 laminate
tag sample. Then follow step 2 and spray the washes with a light
coating of Future Floor Wax. Tilt the laminate tag slightly to run
and pool the wash and wax mixture over the top. You may use a heat
gun to speed up the drying process if desired.
5) Edge the laminate tag sample with Black Brilliance ink. Allow to
dry.
6) Using your favorite white craft glue, affix the 4 tiles to the
laminate tag as shown. Allow to dry.
7) Using the same glue, affix decorative metal embellishment as
shown. Allow to dry. |

1) Use a predrilled Mahjong tile OR you may drill the top hole
yourself using a Dremel Rotary tool or similar.
2) Prepare the tile by lightly sanding with small grit sandpaper.
Use a clean cotton cloth to remove any dust from the tile.
3) Using your finger, smear Dioxazine Purple acrylic paint over the
tile. (You may use any dark purple colored paint you desire) Once
dry, pounce a very small amount of Cranberry Adirondack® Dimensional
Pearls over the tile using your finger. Allow to dry.
4) Stamp Large Winged Cat image (Third
Coast Art Rubber Stamps) onto tile using White Brilliance ink.
Allow to dry.
