Project Sponsored by:

1. Purchase sheet plastic (acrylic) from a local hardware store.
2.ba. Print or copy a picture of a garden scene (approx. 5 x 7 inches)
onto tracing paper (tissue paper, mulberry paper or other thin papers
would also work). Cut out the picture, lay it onto plastic and coat both
sides with diluted Mod Podge®.
b. Stamp an egg from the For The Birds collection (Time
To Stamp) on blue mulberry paper…cut it out and coat it with Mod Podge®.
c. Set aside to dry.
3. a. Draw the 4 pieces of the birdhouse on the covering of the sheet
plastic as follows: 2 sides (2 rectangles 3¾ inches long by 3½ inches
high) and 2 end pieces (2 rectangles 3 inches wide by 5½ inches high; find
the center of one end of each rectangle and draw the roof angles from the
center to a point 3½ inches from the bottom on each side).
b. Cut out the 4 pieces of the birdhouse using a
jeweler’s saw. Lightly file off any burrs and smooth the edges using a
small metal file.
c. Drill out the center opening using a drill to start
the hole and saw using a jeweler’s saw.
4. Purchase 4 hinges and the screws and nuts to hold them in place. Drill
out the holes for the hinge screws.
5. Take
the plastic covering off the plastic and put on 3 of the hinges. (This
made it easier to visualize where to place the designs.)
Hint: Check to be sure that the birdhouse will fold into a rectangle; the
hex nuts need to have a flat edge perfectly vertical to prevent them
binding together.
6. Stamp Feathered Friends and other phrases, 3 birds, feather and nest
from the For the Birds collection (Time To Stamp) on each side using
StazOn® ink.
7. Glue the egg onto the back of the birdhouse with gloss gel medium; it
will dry clear.
8. Attach the 4th hinge.
9. Fold the garden scene photo prepared in Step 2 gently in half and use
it as the roof of the birdhouse.
