Making handmade decorations for the Christmas tree is always a fun project. Now here's a very easy way to make gorgeous 'domino' decorations too! But don't stop at Christmas. You can make hanging decorations for any occasion like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day and even Thank yous. The ornaments don't need to hang on a tree either. You can hang them on the side of a computer monitor, over a door knob or how about a rear-view mirror decoration for your car! Those are just a few possibilities to get you thinking :-)

Let's get started!
1. Start with a standard white domino (ivory coloured work just as well but I feel the white makes a brighter canvas for the Sharpies). You don't need to do any preparation for my Sharpie projects. Sharpies work best on the shiny slick domino surface than a bleached or sanded one.

2. Lay the domino on your work surface and ink the rubber stamp with coal black Ancient Page dye ink. Carefully eyeball the position of the stamp while hovering above the domino. When you're ready stamp the domino. Practice a bit before hand to make sure you don't slip while making sure you've got good surface coverage. The stamp can move on the slick surface and you definitely don't want a smudged image!

3. Heat set the image with a heat tool then colour the image with Sharpie markers using my Sharpie Domino Queen Technique. For directions on my technique please see my 'The Sharpie Domino Queen' article on page 50 in the July/Aug 2003 issue of Somerset Studio or get the info from my website at www.velvetpawcreations.com

4. Once you've finished colouring with the Sharpies add some 'snow' detail with a fine point silver paint pen. Then edge the domino with a gold metallic paint pen. You don't need to colour the sides because it's going to be covered up.

5. To protect the decorated domino surface add a generous coat of Diamond Glaze. Float the glue on directly from the bottle. To avoid air bubbles don't shake the bottle, but sometimes an air bubble can sneak in regardless of how careful you are. So don't stress about it. Let the glaze completely dry before touching it. I like to leave it for a few hours or overnight.

6. Now we add the jump ring. Adhere a mini glue dot to the top side of the domino and balance the jump ring on the dot. Add two more mini glue dots on each side of the jump ring and to the corners of the top side of the domino and then evenly space them all the way around the sides of the domino.

7. To add the decorative trim start by wrapping it around the domino to determine the length needed and cut off the required amount. Glue one end of the trim at the base of the domino in the middle and continue wrapping the trim around the sides. When you get to the jump ring thread the trim through the circle and make sure you press the trim securely onto the glue dots on both sides of the ring. Then continue adding the trim until you get to the base point again. Try not to overlap the trim ends, it looks better if you butt the edges together. For added strength cover the trim ends with glue. If you use a braided trim like I did the glue helps stop it from unraveling.

8. All you need to do now is thread the fine gold fiber through the jump ring for hanging and you're done!
