Where I’ve Been: Mini
Travel Journal by
Lis Whiting
This Mini Journal is meant to record a special trip, perhaps a move or a
new job. There are pockets to save tickets, maps, pictures and other
memorabilia & places to write impressions and memories.
Create Your Card Base:
Cut two pieces of medium blue cardstock 6 x 12 and fold in half to make
two 6 x 6 cards. Punch two small holes in the sides of both cards so that
they can be joined with fibers later. Holes should be about 1-1/2 inch
from the top and bottom of the cards and about 1/4 inch in from left edge.
You will have:
6 total pages
2 – journaling
2 - decorating
2 – center for two page
spread for the pockets
1 – front
1 – back
Dominos:
Stamp a variety of postage images in StazOn black [Tsukineko] onto dominos
1 x 1/2. Color dust in yellow ochre [Marvy]. Heat set. Color the edges in
gold pen [Pilot]. Stamps used are from
Map Pockets:
Print a map of the USA on a transparency (read carefully and make sure
that the transparency is made for your type of printer: LaserJet, inkjet
or other). Layer the transparency onto white pearl text weight paper.
Adhere with Xyron. Cut the transparency with map image to make the
following pieces:
pieces of 2 x 6
2 pieces 2 x 2-7/8
Place double stick tape on the back of the pieces (both sides and bottom
only). Set aside.
Decorate the inside pages of your Journal:
Line up both 6x6 pieces so that one opens to the left and the other opens
to the right. This is the center of the mini journal and where you will
have your pockets. Adhere two 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch pieces to the
pages. Add one map pocket to the bottom of each page. Adhere the smaller
map pockets above, one on each page.
Take the left card and open it. Adhere paper to both pages.
(See Picture 3)

Use scrapbook paper of maps, writing and places. Cut the pieces to 5-1/2 x
5-1/2 inches and adhere to the journal pages. Make sure to punch holes if
needed. Punch out a tag 3 x 5. Color dust in yellow ochre [Marvy] on the
edges. Outline in gold pen. Add fibers to the top and attach two small
tags using the fibers. (The small tags I used were wire rimmed vellum.
Since the tags were outlined in gold, I also colored the wire rim to
match.) Stamp the words “travel” and “discover” [Just Right Stamps]. and
adhere to each of the two journal pages. These will be for journaling.

Decorate the cover of your Journal:
Add your choice of scrapbook paper to the cover. Add one additional piece
(torn) on top of it. It should be a travel theme. Stamp a background in
Brilliance black [Tsukineko] [Tin Can Mail] .Paint chipboard “w” with
Lumiere in metallic gold [Jacquard]. Stamp “My Travel Journal” on it in
black Brilliance [Tsukineko] [Just Right Wheel Stamps]. Add one of the
dominos to the lower front. Add a magnifying glass.
(See Picture 1
 and
See Picture 5)

To put the book together, thread fibers through both holes that were
previously punched and tie a knot.
