GATE KEY TO MY HEART Necklace & Box
By Deirdre E.

Start this project with a brand new domino with a small hole drilled into the top of one side, or drill the hole yourself with a small handheld drill. Use a red and a pink Sharpie marker to scribble color across the face of the domino, before the colors dry use a tissue to rub the color in to give it a streaked and blended look. (See Picture 1)

Use a silver paint pen (Elmer’s) to edge the face of the domino and about a quarter of an inch down the sides. Stamp the domino with a Gate Key stamp (Limited Edition Rubber Stamp Co.) or any key stamp you have in your collection. (See Picture 2)

Re-ink the stamp and lay it down ink side up, bring the top edge of the domino to the stamp keeping the image in line with where you left off. Do the same with the very top of the key on the backside of the domino. (See Picture 3)

Spray the domino with Krylon fixative and then Krylon sealant, let dry.

Dip two eye pins into glue (E500) and then into the hole at the top of the domino, let dry. Attach a silver bail to the eye pins. Cut a long piece of black suede cord and string the bail onto the cord to complete your Gate Key necklace! (See Finished Picture)

On to the Box! Buy a wooden, book shaped box at your local craft store or online. Paint it with acrylic pink and light pink paint (Crafters Acrylic) as you paint streak with both colors and rub the color in with a paper towel to give it an aged look. Do the inside of the box in light pink. Do the edges in light pink as well, let dry, then use a silver paint pen (Elmer’s) to draw lines to look like pages of the book. (See Book 1)

To decorate the top of the box ink up a paisley design stamp in red ink (Staz-On) and stamp the left side. Use a background stamp (INKADINKADO 93437) to place three stamped images down the right side in black ink. (See Book 2)

Use alphabet stamps to stamp the words “A LOVE STORY” on the box binding. Now use butterfly cut outs, red and black feathers, a cute lock charm and red and silver hearts to embellish the top of the box any way you like using these examples or whatever you like. (See Book 3)

Moving to the inside of the box stamp some paisley designs and then paint over it in light pink to give it a muted old look, attach words from a favorite love song with modge podge glue, then paint lightly over that. Attach a vintage picture, more butterflies, a love stamp and the key stamp used in making the domino necklace. Paint over the top of some leave some bright and vivid. Let your imagination take over. (See Book 4)

Once dry, fill your box with sweet reminders of the one you love.
