‘First Crush’
Domino Zipper Charm
by Leigh Snaith-Brunton
The Sharpie Domino Queen

My 7 year old niece’s crush on Orlando Bloom was my inspiration for this domino zipper charm creation! When the DVD ads for ‘Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest’ appeared in the newspaper I saved a clipping of the DVD cover so I could make her something special! She can put her zipper charm on a jacket, school bag or any where else she can think of.

Select the size of the domino based on the size of the picture to be used and drill a hole horizontally through the domino from side to side.
Drilling tips: Mark the hole position on both sides of the domino and drill half way through from one side and then continue from the other side until the holes connect inside. This way the holes will match up and won’t chip.

Spread colour (pink Ancient Page dye ink) directly onto the domino with the ink pad and blend with a piece of kitchen paper towel. Then pounce the inked up paper towel onto the domino to create a mottled effect and heat set with an embossing heat tool.

Cut the photo of Orlando Bloom to fit the domino and dampen the edges with a bit of water. Then carefully tear away the straight edges and allow it to dry.

Apply a thin coat of Delta Ceramcoat Satin varnish to the surface of the domino and adhere the picture. Apply another 2 coats to the surface and the sides of the domino to seal and protect.

To create the zipper charm I used a metal head pin and recycled a charm bracelet that already had great bead dangles attached (found in the after Christmas clearance section of Michaels craft store).

Remove the flat head from the pin with wire cutters and form a loop on one end with needle nose pliers. Thread the wire through the domino and finish with another loop. Dismantle the charm bracelet and attach a short section to the loops on both sides of the domino. Form another short section with the lobster claw clasp and attach the other two short pieces to it. Cut the remaining strand in half and attach to the sides of the domino to form the dangles. I added three left over dangles to the clasp jump ring for extra jingle. Embellish the domino with two tiny pink Class A Peel heart jewel stickers by Stampendous.
