Focusing on Rubber Stamp Techniques

Theme: Wet Paper Water Coloring Technique

Basic Directions: Mist cardstock with water; ink stamp with dye-based markers or ink pads and stamp on wet cardstock allowing images to bleed. After paper is dry (heat tool may be used to speed process) stamp over images with same image in darker colors or other complimentary images. Watercolor paper may be used but is not necessary for this technique.
Bamboo By Daylene Strickland

Ink the bamboo stamp (Stamp Out Cute) using Big & Juicy Deep Woods ink pad and stamp once on wet paper. (See Picture 1)
Use heat tool to dry paper. Use a stamp positioner to stamp image slightly offset with black archival ink. Offsetting the stamp was done because this particular stamp has an outline frame and this way it is easily used for the water coloring technique. (See Picture 2)

Trim the stamped image using the black lines as guidelines. Layer with 3 dragonfly brads to a piece of light green cardstock, which has torn edges sponged with black ink. Add this to a steel blue cardstock layer and then a black card.
Lilac Solidago Card by Karen Bourke

Take some watercolour paper and ink up your stamp (Rubber Stampede Solidago Sprig) with pigment ink. Spritz your stamp with water (using a fine water spray) and stamp onto the paper. Stamp again several times varying the direction so you get a “bouquet” of flowers. (See Picture 1)

Cut the watercoloured image to size and mat and layer onto three pieces of coordinating cardstock. (See Picture 2)
Staple three small pieces of ribbon, in matching colours, onto the left hand side of the image and tie a ribbon around the card at the bottom. (See Picture 3)

Take your main cardstock and fold in half. Attach some coordinating paper and mount your image on the top. Use a Krylon pen to ink around the edges of the main card.

Butterflies by Wendy Kerr

Stamp butterfly (A Stamper’s Paradise) with a Kaleidacolor inkpad.
Spritz with water. (See Picture 1)
 Let Dry.

Stamp over your images with black ink (Ancient Page Coal.) (See Picture 2)

Stipple color over your piece then layer as shown.

*Note clear or closely trimmed unmounted stamps work best for this technique.

Swanny by Nancy Thaut

Begin with watercolor paper. Spray randomly with water. Using Stamp Zia color wash watercolor spray on paper with malachite and garnet. Using Stamp Zia stamp with ColorBox Prussian Blue ink and emboss with clear embossing paper. Spray with Adirondack butterscotch and mount on blue transparency paper.

For background paper take a piece of transparency paper and scribble with blue, fuchsia and yellow Sharpie markers. Spray with alcohol until drippy. Press glossy paper into the transparency.

Stamp Autumn Leaves “Flourishes” stamp with Versamark ink. Embossing with gold embossing powder. Attach 3 gold jewelry pieces. Punch corners and attach glossy paper to yellow glossy card.
Red Letters by Daylene Strickland

Ink the Crackle Berry stamp (Stampabilities) using Marvy Matchable English Red and stamp repeatedly on wet paper, inking each time. (See Picture)
Mist paper with more water if needed to achieve desired results. Use heat tool to dry paper. Trim paper to square card size. Using the same stamp without diluting red ink, stamp 3 times overlapping previous stampings. Also stamp in a few places using Encore Metallic Gold ink.

With the “Girl Writing Letters” image (Red Castle) stamp in black ink close to the center of cardstock. Add a bit of stamped script in black on the corner and edge in a random fashion (stamp by Lasting Impressions with Panache). Use a decorative corner punch on four corners. (Fiskars).

Adhere to slightly larger piece of black cardstock. Add tiny brads in the corners; before securing the backs add gold cording around edges and tie through the back of one of the holes for a brad. Adhere the panel to a red folded card.
Surf’s Up! by Daylene Strickland

Ink sea sponge image using Big & Juicy Waterfall ink pad and stamp on wet cardstock 3 times (reinking each time). (See Picture)
The top picture is an impression of the inked stamp without water for reference. Pick up paper and allow colors to run. After paper is dry, trim a section for card. Stamp surf board; mask once and stamp again using the Big & Juicy Mountain Meadow ink pad. Stamp sea shells using same ink pad. Tie cord with sand dollar charm around card piece and layer on coordinating cardstock. All stamps from Posh Impressions/Sunday International.
