Star Ornament Gift & Card by Daylene Strickland

Julia Andrus invented this technique and calls it Perfect Cosmos Paper. For this project use 2 pieces of heavy chip board cut in star shapes. A template was used to trace the star, but any die cut will also work as long as the pieces are identical when placed together back-to-back. (See Picture 1)

Step 1
Use DTP method to apply 3 colors of pigment ink to both star shapes in a random fashion. (Color Box Cyan, Turquoise, Harbor were used.) Apply two coats of clear UTEE and heat. Allow to slightly cool.

Step 2
Apply VersaMark or Perfect Pearl Medium.  Brush several colors of Perfect Pearls over stars to cover. (Perfect Pearl, Copper, Turquoise)  Sprinkle clear UTEE over. (See Picture 2)
Heat; Pearl powders will drop to the bottom and colorful burst of metallic powder appear. Piece is finished when glossy and shiny.

Step 3
Glue star pieces together back-to-back. If either piece cracks, once dry, slightly heat with heat tool to regain gloss finish. Add rattail ribbon (approx. 25”) by gluing from bottom upward around star. (See Picture 3)

Add bead; tie knot at top; trim close ends and use craft glue to secure ends from raveling.

Step 4
Prepare card by embossing background image (Judikins) with copper EP on navy cardstock. Layer on copper metallic paper, then on navy card. On ivory cardstock, stamp Christmas sentiment (Hero Arts) on four sides and layer on card. Add ornament to front of card using glue dots making it removable for use.

Fleur de Les
A slight variation of this technique is to use a plastic fork or comb at the end of Step 2 and gently pull it across the heated UTEE for a marbled look.

The Fleur de Les was traced from a template; background stamp by Inkadinkado (dawn houser); corner punch is Elegance by Fiskars.
