No Other Reason Iris Folded Card by Linda Strawn

Click here to see a movie of how to put this card together.

Basic Directions for Iris Folding

1. Trace or copy the pattern

2. Cut pattern out around outer edge

3. Turn cardstock over, you will be working on the backside of the card to create your design.

4. Position your pattern in the cut out so design is seen on the front.

5. Cut your desired papers into strips a little more than twice as wide as the largest section of your pattern, and fold them in half lengthwise.
Assemble each strip into a pile and assign each strip a letter that corresponds with your pattern.
Start working your pattern with color #1 on angle #1 on the pattern.

6. Place the folded edge of paper A on angle 1 and tape down with a bit of tape. Trim any excess away.

7. Next place paper for section 2 and tape it over pattern section 2 on design.
Keep following the pattern using one paper at a time covering each numbered section in order till you have filled up all but the center hole.

8. When you add a piece of paper to the inside of the card this will cover up your center.

Card Directions

1. Using sepia archival ink from Ranger stamp out small woman available from Chapel Road Art Stamps on a small scrap of white glossy cardstock.

2. Cut out into a rectangle approximately 1-3/4" wide x 2" long.

3. Crumple up picture and unfold and use Distress ink from Ranger to antique paper. Use old paper first, then deepen cracks with tea dye, and last go around the edges of picture with walnut stain and just touch a few of the cracks.

4. Cut a golden brown cardstock and fold into a card 4-1/4" x 5-1/2".

5. Mount the picture in the upper left hand of the cardstock.

6. Copy diamond pattern from the book Iris Folding #5225 from Design Originals and cut out to form a diamond and place onto card front so that the diamond covers the bottom corner of the photo you stamped. Draw around the diamond.

7. Using a cutting mat and an exacto knife cut out diamond only thru top layer of card.

8. Follow basic directions for adding your paper pattern and adding strips.

9. When design is completed cut a strip of pink crinkle ribbon to go at bottom and at top right corner.

10. Using black ink stamp woman’s reason also available from Chapel Road Artstamps onto a piece of cork and tear around it. Attach to the bottom center of ribbon.

11. Cut a piece of contrasting paper to fit inside of your card to cover up iris folding backside and attach, this will form the center or iris of your card design.

12. With a glue dot attach 3 flowers to card and add a rhinestone in the center of each. Add a pink square rhinestone in the center of iris eye. See finished card.
