Stamp (Art Neko, forthcoming) in black with Versa craft then emboss with Ranger clear on a nice bright white cardstock. Cut out the body (all the white feathers) with an Exacto knife. (See Picture 1)

You'll be left with a hole the shape of the body. Cover the edges and cuts with black pen, and stick a tiny bit of red scrap paper behind the crane's cap. (See Picture 2)

Now, prepare your paper strips. Choose coordinating colors, keeping in mind where they'll appear (I chose gold and white overall, but the gold design is lighter for the back and neck of the crane, denser for the belly and wing part). Cut your strips into 1/4" pieces (See Picture 3)

, then turn them right-side-down and gently draw the tip of your Exacto knife along the back down the middle. This will slightly crease the paper and ensure that your folds are nice and crisp. (See Picture 4)

Working on the back of the piece, surround the hole with 1/4" double-stick tape pieces, then start laying down the folded strips, making sure that the folds face away from you, and all go the same direction. (See Picture 5)

Keep an eye on where you are so that you switch papers at the appropriate place, if you so choose. (See Picture 6)

When done, cut to size. I edged mine with Krylon and attached it to Yuzen Washi (Japanese Paper) and then red cardstock. I also added a chop.
