Altered “Travel” Clipboard by: Susan Chong

Ink the edges of a 6x9 inch masonite clipboard with Fired Brick Distress Ink.  Allow to dry.

Cut out a piece of Faux Leather Batik* paper to fit the clipboard.  Ink your Innovative Stamp Creations Scrapbook Words Stamps with Fired Brick, Mustard Seed, and Black Soot Distress Inks and randomly stamp over the entire paper.  Allow to dry.  Spray 2-3 light layers of Krylon Workable Fixative over the entire paper.  (Allow to dry between layers)

Adhere Faux Leather Batik paper to the clipboard using Matte Mod Podge.  Smooth out the paper and cover the clipboard evenly.  Once the paper is in place, cover the entire paper piece with a light layer of Matte Mod Podge using a foam brush.  Allow to dry completely.

Ink the Innovative Stamp Creations Scrapbook Words Stamps with Sunflower Yellow, Blazing Red, and Black StazOn ink.  Overstamp the entire clipboard with the images.  Allow to dry.

Adhere postage stamps to the clipboard using the Mod Podge.  Using a cosmetic sponge, pick up some of Mustard Seed and Fired Brick Distress Inks and pounce onto a piece of plastic wrap.  Pour a quarter sized dollop of Mod Podge over the ink.  Using a foam brush, swirl the Mod Podge around until it picks up some of the ink.  Lightly dab over the postage stamps on your clipboard.  Allow to dry.

Ink the Innovative Stamp Creations “Cancelled Postage stamp and apply over the postage stamps with Blazing Red and Black StazOn ink.  Allow to dry

Using your favorite craft glue, adhere all of the other travel embellishments** to the clipboard.  Allow to dry completely.

Wrap wire embellishment around the clip.

Faux Leather Batik by Susan Chong

Take a piece of brown paper anywhere from 6 x 6 to 12 x 12 inches.  Wad up into a ball and unfold several times.  Soak the paper with water and wad and unfold one more time.  Take care not to tear the paper.  Lay the unfolded paper onto the bottom of the plastic wash basin.

Drop several complimentary colors of dye ink directly onto the paper.  Allow to soak into the paper for a minute or so.

Put on your gloves and pick the paper up and wad and carefully unfold a few times.  Squeeze the wadded ball tightly to spread the ink.  Finally, unfold the paper and lay flat to dry. (Be careful where you dry your paper, the dye ink will bleed out underneath)

After completely dry, you may use as a background paper or stamp images directly onto the paper.

~VARIATIONS~:  After you have applied your dye ink and let set for a minute, you can quickly rinse the paper before finishing as above.  This will result in a more muted tone.  You may also slightly water down your dye ink PRIOR to dropping onto the brown paper.  This will also result in more muted tones.  As always……experiment and have fun!!

 Embellishments:

“Travel” - String together with craft wire Making Memories alpha charms.  Curl the ends of the wire.

“Notes” - String Ribbon Alpha charms onto maroon ribbon.  Tie knots on both ends and trim.

Wire Embellishment -Make 2 coils (one large and one small) out of black and maroon craft wire.  Feed the smaller coil into the larger one.  Twist around the clip of the board and tangle ends together to secure to clip.
