BROWN BAG IT –“BOOK OF INSPIRATION” by Karen Bourke

Rubber Stamps from:  Innovative Stamp Creations

Cut out five envelopes using brown paper bags (15cm x 15cm) from a template.  With a piece of cut and dry foam and the Scattered Straw Distress Ink pad gently rub colour on all the edges of the envelopes.  Fold the envelopes and stick down.

On a piece of mount board draw round the folded envelope leaving a 1/4” edge all around.  Cut out and repeat making a front and back cover.  Cover the front with brown paper from the brown bag.  Score two holes in the top corner and push the handle through to the back.  Cover the back of the front cover and both sides of the back cover with the brown paper.  Colour all edges with the Scattered Straw Distress Ink.  Stamp the words “dreamer” and “question” around the edges on the front cover.

Make a template using Word and a good font on your computer and cut out the letter “A” from mount board.  Ink the letter with embossing ink and emboss with gold embossing powder.  Print out a fancy letter “R” and “T” from your computer onto matching paper.  Cut out and then cut a similar size block for your background of the mount board letter.  Using Glossy Accents cover both the letters “R” & “T” and set aside to dry.  Mount your embossed letter “A” onto the background.  When dry glue onto the front mount board.

Cut five pieces of light brown card in tag shapes to fit inside the brown paper envelopes and five pieces of the same card in a similar shape, but slightly smaller.  Edge the smaller pieces with Scattered Straw ink.  Lightly glue the smaller pieces of card onto the tags and prick holes all around each of them and stitch with brown thread.

Stamp out the quotes/words with Peeled Paint Distress Ink, tear around and edge with ink.  Take five pieces of dictionary paper and crumple them up.  Rub the Scattered Straw inkpad lightly all over then gently smudge with cut and dry foam.  Attach one dictionary paper and one quote to each tag.  Staple ribbons to the top and add brads, clips or other embellishments.

Attach transparencies of various designs to the back of each envelope and stamp one of the phrases to the front.  Ink up the “Journey” and ”Inquisitive” images and stamp all over the inside front and back covers.

Attach a piece of dictionary paper and stamp a mixture of the phrases using the Peeled Paint ink onto the back cover.  Attach a book plate over the words “Question” and “Dreamer” with double sided tape.

Punch holes through the envelopes and covers and attach book rings.  Tie matching ribbons around the rings.
