Hinged Keepsake Domino Boxlet featuring square dominoes by Leigh
Snaith-Brunton

Every romantic soul likes to have a special place to keep little treasures. I've designed a hinged domino boxlet that's perfect to save little love notes, ticket stubs or the phone number of your new special guy!

Start the project with 2 shiny square dominoes ( www.craftingsandthings.com ). You don't need to do anything to prepare the domino surfaces for this project.

Stamp the two Alphonse Mucha images (Stamp Happy Rubber Stamps) with Plum Wine Ancient Page dye ink (ClearSnap) on the front domino and heat set the ink with a heat gun. Apply colour to the images and background by dabbing on Pink Pizzazz, Cardinal and Plum Wine Ancient Page dye ink using pieces of scrunched up paper towel and heat set.

Stamp the saying (source unknown) and 2006 (Stampendous clear alpha/numeric stamp set) with coal black Ancient Page dye ink and heat set. Add in any image detail that was lost while applying all the colour with a plum ultra fine Sharpie marker. Colour the back domino with all of the same colours and stamp words and sayings (Love - www.qwikart.com ) in Cardinal Ancient Page dye ink and heat set.

Edge, colour the sides and the backs of the dominoes with a broad line liquid gold metallic paint pen (DecoColor). Spray the dominoes with Krylon Gloss sealer and then add a coat of either Crystal Lacquer or Judikins Diamond Glaze to the decorated surfaces of the dominoes for a glass-like finish.

Glue a small brass hinge to the dominoes with E6000 glue and leave to dry over night. For a closure cut two small pieces of self-adhesive magnet strips and colour with the gold metallic paint pen. Adhere one magnet to a domino. Remove the backing from the second magnet and place it on top of the already attached magnet, then close the boxlet. This ensures the correct placement of the second magnet.

For the inside of the boxlet create a mini expanding envelope with accordion sides. Cut a piece of white cardstock to the correct size. Score fold lines with a bone folder and ruler. Use a lace punch to decorate the envelope flap. Before assembling the envelope decorate it using the direct to paper method of applying ink. First sparingly smear on Pink Pizzazz Ancient Page dye ink and then cover the entire envelope with Milled Lavender Distress Ink (Ranger). Stamp the text ( www.qwikart.com ) with Plum Wine Ancient Page dye ink. Assemble the envelope and glue the flaps down with Aleene's Fast Grab glue. Add an alphabet heart sticker to the envelope flap. Glue the envelope inside the boxlet with the same glue.

Embellish the finished boxlet with a small pink feather, tiny domino bead
and ribbon secured in a bow around the hinge.

I designed this boxlet to stand on edge but for a different look I suggest adhering clear flat-backed marbles to the base domino. The clear marbles won't obscure the design on the domino.
