Faux Silk Acetate Panel Box Project By Vicki Bridges

Supplies:
Paper Mache box
White gesso
Party napkin
Modge Podge
Acetate panel
StazOn ink, black
Stamp Peace by Rubber Stampede
Xyron adhesive
Pearl Ex
Various size brushes
Metal leaf
Clear faceted beads
E6000 adhesive
Krylon pen
Gold acrylic paint

Cover box with a layer of gesso.

Carefully separate the layers of the party napkin.

Measure and cut the napkin to cover the lid with a little left over. Cover lid top with Modge Podge and center napkin over lid. Press into the adhesive and carefully smooth any wrinkles. Small wrinkles are fine and you can smooth with your brush. Add adhesive on one side at a time and smooth napkin over each edge including the underside. Do all sides, set aside. FYI- at this point you can add a layer of Modge Podge to the surface of the box if desired. I prefer the look of the plain napkin, but it will be more durable if you have a few coats over the napkin layer. Cut strips of remaining napkin and glue to box sides in the same manner as lid. On the bottom, glue bead “feet” with E6000 to each corner, set aside.

(

On a panel of acetate, stamp Peace in StazOn ink using a stamp positioner. Let dry for a few minutes. Run acetate through a Xyron machine, right side up, and rub the back to assure good adhesion.

You are going to brush Pearl Ex on the back of the letters. So just peel back a small amount of Xyron backing to expose a portion of the stamped letter. Load a small amount (very important) of Pearl Ex on a small brush and delicately brush P.E. on the adhesive. You may use as many colors as desired to highlight and shade stamped image.

Be careful and neat, for when P.E. drops on adhesive, it stays! When you are finished with P.E. recover acetate with the Xyron backing.

At this time trim the acetate panel the size you want. Next fold the backing back about ¼ of an inch.

Use a medium size brush to press pieces of metal leaf into the adhesive. Use a bone folder or spoon back to press and scrap off excess metal leaf.

Continue in this manner until all four sides are completed.

Use a glue stick and apply adhesive to the metal leaf border. Peel off backing paper and center on box lid. Press firmly, turn lid upside down and press with very firm pressure.

Take a Krylon gold pen and mark the edges of the lid as desired. Add any embellishments as desired. Paint the inside of box if desired.
