Color Wash Resist Note Box by Linda Strawn

All art rubber stamps used are from GG Designs www.ggdesigns.net

(1) Ink up # 810 Elizabeth’s Sunflowers rubber stamp using super emboss ink and stamp image onto a white piece of cardstock. Sprinkle clear embossing powder on image and heat to emboss.

Note: In sample I turned the image upside down so the large sunflower was at the top.

(2) Place embossed image on a scrap piece of paper and using Adirondack spray color wash in butterscotch, espresso, terra cotta, and pesto, spray image. I like to start with the lightest color and then add a touch of the terra cotta, deepen the edges with espresso and the petals of the sunflowers, and last add pesto where the leaves will be and a touch on the outer edges. Experiment and find what makes the best results for you. While still wet, cover image with a piece of plain copy paper, and with a hot iron, iron image. You will see the embossing powder transfer to the copy paper and leave the stamped image to show. Tear image out and set aside. (I like to tear it aprox. A little smaller than my box front.)

(3) Use Folk Art Olive Green acrylic paint and a sponge brush to paint the front, side, and back of a note box (from www.usartquest.com) and let dry. Be sure and remove the pencil from the side and cut the tab off before painting. Next paint the inside black. When dry, use a paint brush and dry brush a bit of black onto the green areas. Let this dry.

(4) Using Perfect paper Adhesive Glossy (PPA) and a large brush, paint on a thick layer of PPA and immediately lay torn image on top of box front, cover this with a thick layer of PPA and use fingers to smooth out air bubbles. Keep doing this till all of paper image is flat and adhered. Let dry.

(5) Using stamp image initially yours #82C Alphabet stamps, ink up N O T E S in black or brown water color ink and cut out. Brush PPA across the bottom of box and place letters evenly across bottom to spell NOTES, cover this with more PPA and smooth with fingers to adhere. Cover whole box with another layer of PPA and let dry.

  (6) Using LuminArte’s Twinkling H2O’s Kiwi and a small brush with a little water, paint leaves of sunflowers, let dry, you can also add a bit of sunburst onto the petals of the sunflower. Do this sparingly so the stamping shows through. Let dry.

(7) When dry tie a tan fiber ribbon around inside of box, knotting at the side, tie various ribbons around this fiber. Add a silver clip and a pencil at the top.

(8) Remove paper band on note paper carefully, ink up #462, use talents stamp and stamp this onto paper band front using espresso Adirondack ink. Replace band around center of note paper and use a glue dot on the ends to resecure band. Now you have the perfect note box to keep by the telephone for those quick messages.
