CHEKITS HEXAGONAL COASTER
by Leigh Snaith-Brunton, The Sharpie Domino Queen

Supplies:
Rubber Stamps by ZimPrints
'A Flower Stripe Cat'

7 Chekit game tiles
Sharpie markers
metallic gold paint pen, fine and broad points
heat gun
scissors
Aleene's clear tacky glue
Krylon Artist's Workable Fixative and Gloss Sealer sprays
purple cardstock
very stiff cardboard in any colour
Xyron adhesive

DIRECTIONS:
For my coaster project you'll need 7 domino-like game tiles called Chekits.
No bleaching or sanding is
necessary to prepare the game tiles! Stamp the cat's face with coal black
Ancient Page dye ink on 1
tile and the patterned body of the cat on the remaining 6 tiles. I moved
the stamp around so that each
time I got a slightly different portion of the cat's body for variation.

Heat set the images with a heat gun and then colour all 7 pieces with
Sharpie markers using my Sharpie
Domino Queen Technique. For directions on my technique please see my 'The
Sharpie Domino Queen' article
in the July/Aug 2003 issue of Somerset Studio or get the info on my website
at www.velvetpawcreations.com

The background of the cat tile is a combination of light and dark blue. The
body of the cat is a combination
of yellow and orange. I also changed the amount of orange that I used on
each tile for variation. The colours
of the flowers on the tiles are as follows: 2 are lime, 2 are plum and 2
are pink. The stripes are a varying
shade of light and dark blue.

Add gold dots to the center of each flower and also add a highlight dot on
the cat's eyes. Edge each tile in
gold and colour the sides too. Spray the completed tiles with 2 or 3 light
mistings of an artist's workable
fixative. Once dry then spray the tiles with 1 or 2 light coats of a glossy
sealer.

Set the finished tiles aside while you prepare the base. Cut a circle from
purple cardstock and also a very
stiff cardboard - this can be any colour you want. Run the purple cardstock
through a Xyron to add adhesive
and adhere it to the stiff cardboard.

To finish the project assemble the tiles by first centering the cat's face
in the middle of the circle. Glue
in place with Aleene's clear tacky glue. From there glue each tile around
the center piece.
