Air Dry Clay Embellishments by Susan Chong There are many air dry clays now on the market! Use them to create wonderful embellishments or focal images for your cards and other projects.
Take a piece of clay and roll out into a ball. Using your hand or a rolling pin, flatten out the clay to approximately ¼ inch. (If you use a rolling pin, “condition” it by rubbing baby powder onto the roller to prevent the clay from sticking)
Prepare your stamp by applying a generous amount of embossing ink over the entire image (this will act as a release agent and prevent the stamp from sticking to the clay. You may also use baby powder for this as well. Experiment and see what works best for you.)
Press your stamp firmly into the clay to make a good image. Carefully remove stamp. Wash your stamp immediately to remove any particles of clay.
You may let the image dry as is. Or you may tear around the image or cut the image out. Once you are satisfied with your image, allow to dry for 24 hours.
After your image is dry, you can color it! You can use any type of stamping ink, embossing powders watercolor or acrylic paints, chalks, colored pencils, etc. Use your imagination and the possibilities are endless!
SOMETHING FUN TO TRY: Mix PearlEx or another Mica Powder into black air dry clay before you press in your stamp image! Wow! |
