Supplies:
3 Ivory dominoes (smaller than standard with spinners)
Holiday Quad Cube rubber stamp by Stampendous
Brilliance Peacock Pigment inkpad
Stampendous stickers - snowflakes, stars, holly, red circles
Ancient Page coal black dye inkpad
2 large plastic fancy beads
2 large crystal beads
6 medium crystal beads
Silver charm
Silver cord
Silver metallic paint pen - broad point
Judikins Diamond Glaze
Packing tape
Heat tool/embossing tool
Dremel and small drill bit
Vice/clamp
Pliers
Krylon glossy sealer
Directions:
For this project you need 3 new shiny ivory dominoes. This size of domino
comes with the spinners in the middle. There's no need to pre-treat the
surface of the dominoes in any way. Bleached or sanded dominoes will work
just as well. Remove the spinners with pliers if you want to, but it's not
necessary. Drill 2 holes right through the sides of all 3 dominoes for
threading the cord through.
SAFETY TIP: To drill the holes set the domino in a vice/clamp to protect
your fingers or use a drill press.
Create 'handles' for the dominoes by folding small pieces of packing
sticky tape together and then sticking the ends to the front of the
dominoes that have the dots.
Using the handle, pounce the dominoes up and down on the tri-colour.
Brilliance ink pad to apply a good layer of ink. Do each domino
separately, 1 on the light green, 1 on the darker green and finally 1 on
the blue. The dominoes are all small enough to fit perfectly on the ink
pad. Heat set the dominoes to dry the ink.
Stamp the 3 different holiday images from the stamp cube onto the dominoes
with coal black dye ink. Press the dominoes onto the rubber stamp instead
of the other way round and heat set.
Edge and colour the sides of the dominoes with a silver metallic paint
pen. Embellish each domino with sparkly stickers that enhance the stamped
backgrounds. I used stars on the pine cone domino, snowflakes on the
snowflake domino and holly and a red circle sticker for the berry on the
holly domino. Seal all 3 dominoes with Diamond Glaze.
Assemble the tri-ornament by threading silver cord through 1 medium
crystal bead, then through the first domino. Add another crystal bead and
another domino and so on until you've got all 3 dominoes and beads
threaded. Leave about 2 inches of silver cord sticking out on both sides
and cut the cord. Then do the same process for the second set of holes on
the ornament.
Tie the ends of the cords from the top holes together and secure with
about 2 knots and repeat on the second set. Bringing the dominoes together
with the tied cords forms the tri-ornament shape. Trim the excess cords
and add dabs of glue to the knots to ensure they don't unravel.
Cut a long piece of silver cord and thread one end through the large
snowflake charm. Bring the 2 ends of the cord together and thread both
ends through a large crystal bead. Then thread both ends through a large
silver bead, up through the middle of the tri-ornament, through another
large silver bead and finally through another large crystal bead. Pull the
cord tight and knot twice to secure all the threaded beads in place. To
make the ornament more secure add a small amount of glue where the large
silver beads and dominoes touch before knotting the cord.
Determine how long you want the hanging cord and then knot at the top and
trim off the excess cord.
TIP: I didn't have large silver beads on hand in the shape I needed so I
used 2 coloured beads and coloured them with a silver metallic paint pen.
Once the paint is dry spray them with a coat of glossy sealer. |
