"America Dominos"

"4th Of July #4" by Leigh Snaith-Brunton

Start by free hand drawing a geometric design onto the domino using a light coloured Sharpie marker. I like to use yellow. The geometric design I created is centered around the words '4th of July', '2005' and 'USA'. Once you've drawn the design start applying the various colours. To highlight certain areas add some detail with a blue metallic ultra fine point marker.

Tip: Create depth and variation of colours by either blending 2 shades of the same colour or adding a touch of black ink to darken other colours.
Also going over the same colour again can give you a darker version of the same marker.

Once you've finished decorating the domino adhere the star and circle stickers. Spray the finished domino with 2 - 3 extremely light mistings of Artist's Workable Fixative to set the inks. Then seal with 2 - 3 extremely light mistings of either a gloss or matte sealer - the finished look of the domino is your preference.

Tip: Make sure you allow each coat to dry before the next spraying. If the inks bleed or run then you've applied a coat of either the fixative or the sealer too heavily. Light mistings and patience is the key! Put the finished domino to one side.

Next prepare the cardstocks. Trim a white folded card to size and cut out three panels of coloured cardstocks with a Fiskars shape cutter and template. Edge all the panels with a gold metallic paint pen.

Stitch two of the panels together with a Craft Sewing machine. Randomly draw dots and lines with a Clorox bleach pen on the panels. Leave the bleach a few hours or over night to completely dry. The bleach gives the finished card a distressed feel. Cut a thin strip of ribbon with a rotary cutter and adhere with double-sided sticky tape to the panels. Punch holes and attach the star brads. Adhere a length of red eyelash fiber to the top and bottom of the olive panel with fast grab glue.

Adhere the panels to the folded card with double-sided sticky tape. Apply fast grab glue to the back of the domino and adhere to the assembled card.

4. Paint areas surrounding flag with black paint. Let dry.
5. Ink star stamp with silver ink. Stamp around your black border. Heat set.
6. Let piece sit for a while to make sure it is completely dry.
7. Color in your blue and red areas with your Sharpie markers. (This give more of a shine that the inks, which are used as a guide for where to color with markers.) 8. Spray with a sealer (I use Krylon Gloss Sealer.) Let dry.
9. Edge each piece with the Silver Leafing Pen, to give your pieces a more "finished" look. 10. Add magnets to the back of each domino.

'Home Sweet American Home' Fridge Magnet by Jill-Marie aka Bean

Lightly sand domino to give it some tooth.
Pounce baby blue ink onto prepared domino using direct to domino technique and heat set. Using a fine pencil, sketch a salt block house, flag, and outline a sheep. Paint the house black, the nose, legs & tail of the sheep, as well as the flag pole. Let the paint dry or heat set carefully. Paint in blue part of flag and let it dry. Add chimney and stripes to flag with red paint and let dry.
Add windows, stars & stripes to flag, as well as a circle for sheep's body with white paint and let dry.
Pounce dark green, and then light green over the top (letting some dark show through) for grass and bushes (a q-tip works good for this, or the tip of a fine paint brush). Let dry Using brown paint, outline house & roof, add a door and lines for fence. Put a few dollops of Liquid Appliqué in the sky for clouds, as well as for the sheep's wool & heat with heat gun until puffy. Using an old toothbrush, dip it lightly in the brown paint and flick it with your fingertip to splatter the domino with brown paint. This gives it a nice antique finish. When all is dry, seal with a thin coat of Crystal Effects. Adhere magnet to back with glue & enjoy!

"4th Of July #1" by Leigh Snaith-Brunton

For this project you're going to use a standard domino straight from the tin. No surface preparation is needed.

Start by free hand drawing a geometric design onto the domino using a light coloured Sharpie marker. I like to use yellow. The geometric design I created is centered around the words '4th of July' and 'USA'. Once you've drawn the design start applying the various colours. To highlight certain areas add some detail with a blue metallic ultra fine point marker.

Tip: Create depth and variation of colours by either blending 2 shades of the same colour or adding a touch of black ink to darken other colours.

Wrap red eyelash fiber around the domino and knot to secure in place. Put the finished domino to one side.

Next prepare the cardstocks. Trim a white folded card to size and cut out two panels with a Fiskars shape cutter and template. Cut three wedge shapes from turquoise cardstock and edge with a gold metallic paint pen.

Stitch the two panels together with a Craft Sewing machine. Write 'Independence Day' with a Clorox bleach pen across the two panels. Leave the bleach a few hours or over night to completely dry. The bleach gives the finished card an Americana or Country distressed feel. Punch holes and attach the star brads. Edge the olive panel with a gold metallic paint pen.

Adhere the panels and the turquoise wedges to the folded card with double-sided sticky tape. Apply fast grab glue to the back of the domino and adhere to the assembled card.

Next prepare the cardstocks. Trim a white folded card to size and cut out two panels of coloured cardstocks with a Fiskars shape cutter and template.

Cut a rectangle of gold sparkle cardstock and a square panel from the red speckled paper. Edge two panels with a gold metallic paint pen.

Stitch the two panels together with a Craft Sewing machine. Randomly draw swirls, dots and broken lines with a Clorox bleach pen across the two panels. Leave the bleach a few hours or over night to completely dry. The bleach gives the finished card a distressed feel. Cut a thin strip of ribbon with a rotary cutter and adhere with double-sided sticky tape to the panels. Punch holes and attach the star brads. Adhere a length of red eyelash fiber to the top of the card with fast grab glue.

Adhere the panels to the folded card with double-sided sticky tape. Apply fast grab glue to the back of the domino and adhere to the assembled card.
