PIN SHAKER by Melodie Hand, RubberTree Enterprises

PIN SHAKER CARD

The Pin Shaker Card is another one that is fairly easy to make.  It took me about 5 minutes to gather all my supplies for this project.  Once that was done it only took me about 30 minutes to make 5 at once...and that was with taking pictures of each step.  So this wouldn't be a bad idea for convention pin trading.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
1 sheet CS
1 sheet acetate
Xacto knife
mini envelope template
stylus
scissors
double stick tape
double stick foam tape (or fun foam)
glitter or tiny holeless beads
paints (I used a new line of paints by Rubbertree Enterprises...Colour Magick
Paint)
pin back
stamps (I used a floral stamp by Impressive Stamps - ask me how to order it)
Optional: glitzing powder (from a new colour line by Rubbertree
Enterprises....Colour Magick Glitzing Powder)

Cut full sheet CS in half
Trace mini-envelope template on one end of one half of CS
Using a stylus, mark the fold lines in the template by running the stylus through the fold line holes.
Using a stylus and ruler, mark the second fold line about 1/8” outside of the original fold line (do not do this toward the inside of the envelope because it won’t close properly…it must be done on the outside of the original fold line).
On the other side of the CS trace the inside of the envelope template (just the center minus the flaps).
Cut out envelope and square.
On the front of the envelope and the cut out square, stamp the desired image in the center and emboss (if desired) with Spectrum EP.
Color the image…. I used Paints from our Colour Magick line.
Cut a piece of clear acetate just a little larger than the hole (this piece should actually be about ¼” larger than the hole all the way around).
Adhere acetate to the back side (inside) of the envelope.
Add fun foam strips to the outside edges of the acetate (you can also use the double stick foam tape).
Add glitter &/or beads to the inside of the frame – inside fun foam center.
Cover the back with the stamped square with the images facing down so they will show through the cut acetate cut out.
Close and adhere flaps with double stick tape.
Affix pin back.
This shaker is easily made into a magnet rather than a pin....just add a magnet to the back instead of the pin back.

It is also very easy to make it larger.  You can use larger envelope templates to make bigger ones.  Or, use your acrylic blocks as a template and just cut and wrap the CS around it so you have a front, a back and a closing flap (this you'll understand when we get to the next card).  But you will begin to see that the possibilities are endless with shaker cards.

I used glitter in my card.  But you can use anything that will fit.  I try not to use too large of things though because then you need to make it thicker (use thicker foam) and it just doesn't look right for a pin.

NOTES:

***After coloring I added glitzing powder and sprayed with matte sealer spray.

***The pin backs with the foam tape already on them are the easiest to use.

***When closing this card be sure to fold it up on the scored lines so that
it will look neat.  It should look sort of like a tiny flat box.

***You can always add ribbon or wire and beads around the edges to decorate
and dress it up a bit.

Now you can use virtually anything inside your shaker cards like sand, tiny holeless glass beads, shells, colored macaroni noodles, confetti, punched shapes, glitter, m&m's (as you will see next week), nerds candy, etc.  You really are only limited by your own imagination.
