Dominoes Chat Class (unedited)
Sdominoqueen: well...no, it only counts when you've stole the dominoes from your
son for art Wendy K: I taken other things from the kids to use in artwork,
though
createdtoPra: well in that case i'll have to go to goodwill and get some
Scout: I pay a little for them at the thrift stores
Phyllis: Hi took me a little bit of frustration to get in
steph s: try the dollar stores they have them cheap
spip: TJ Maxx and Ross have them cheap, too!
Scout: Never foound any in the $ stores in San Diego
Wendy K: I got some cool green ones from my grandmother, but haven't touched
them yet
spip: oooo green!
Wendy K: in fact, don't remember where I put them lol
Scout: Longs Drugs usually have them
createdtoPra: so were talking real domino's
Phyllis: what are we talking about acquiring?
steph s: domino phyllis
Scout: anyone ever done anything with the old black ones
Nicole: found tons of small ones at an independent 99 cent store
Sdominoqueen: You must try eBay, just type in dominoes and you'll be there hours
looking at all hits
Sdominoqueen: you can get some great deals on eBay
vbarth3615@a: I've tried with the black ones but I don't like how they turn out.
steph s: yes scout i have you pearl ex powderd on them with diamond glaze
Phyllis: wonder how the opalites would look on them
Scout: Got some old black with dragons on them, real neat, but the black paint
smeared off them when stuff was added
Sdominoqueen: Ok, lets begin the class!
Sdominoqueen: Right, before I lauch into anything - does anyone have any
questions?
Scout: please discuss whether to bleach first or not
Sdominoqueen: OK
steph s: do you treat your domino's do you seal them before doing anything
Sdominoqueen: To bleach or not to bleach, that is the first question
Patti: I hae not bleached - just sanded a bit
Puggins logged on at 9:06:51 PM
steph s: Hi Puggins
Sdominoqueen: First of all, you don't have to bleach. There's 2 awesome
techniques to use dominoes straight out of the tin
vbarth3615@a: I have bleached, sanded & sealed with FFF
Puggins: hi everyone, sorry I'm late
Phyllis: Hi Puggins
Wendy K: Welcome
Sdominoqueen: Hi there, welcome, we've just started I'm seeing if anyone has
anything in particular they want to know about first.
Puggins: okay
vbarth3615@a: to use the Sharpie pens, which is the best way to get the dominos
ready?
Sdominoqueen: I mainly work with my dominoes directly from the tin
Nicole: what is FFF?
vbarth3615@a: Future Floor Finish
Sdominoqueen: And as my nickname suggests, Sharpies are my favourite
Puggins: I have used the Sharpies on the tumbled tiles for coasters
steph s: yes and you do beautiful work
vbarth3615@a: I have never used them, but want to
Sdominoqueen: The shiny smooth surface of a dom is perfect for Sharpie work
vbarth3615@a: they won't run?
Ohana logged on at 9:10:27 PM
steph s: ho Ohana
Wendy K: Welcome
steph s: opps hi
Phyllis: lol steph
PleasantOne: I have problems with my sharpies looking "streaky"... or their
colors fading over time. What can I do to help these?
spip: Wendy, are you the moderator?
Sdominoqueen: To start altering a shiny domino you need dye inks that require
heat setting
Ohana: Aloha all, I need to read to catch up...
Wendy K: Yes I am
Phyllis: Aloha Ohana
spip: I wonder if there's a way to get people to let just you say ho when people
com in -
Sdominoqueen: streaky Sharpies is the way you're applying them
Wendy K: ? it was a typo, if you were offended
Sdominoqueen: to prevent colours fading over time you need to seal them
Phyllis: Sharpies are alcohol based?
Sdominoqueen: Yes, alcohol based permanent marker
spip: NO! It was a typo - it's just that we get multiple greeting whenever
someone comes in -
Phyllis: so if make boo boo can wipe them off?
Sdominoqueen: yes you can
Phyllis: kewl thanks
Sdominoqueen: You can also fix a Sharpie mistake in the middle of decorating too
Ann Ullery: Dye Inks? Staz-On - Document Ink - etc...?
Ohana: I've only done a few dominoes, but StazOn worked and can't remember how I
colored them, before Sharpie colors came on board
Sdominoqueen: If you put colour down where you didn't want or went over a line
etc
Ann Ullery: When I've sealed my dominos, my artwork has smeared and all but
vanished - what type of sealant is best?
ejaangel logged on at 9:14:46 PM
Ohana: would the alcohol inks from Adirondack work?
Sdominoqueen: all you need to do is colour OVER it with the new colour and it
will remove the mistake
steph s: hi ejaangel
Phyllis: good tip
ejaangel: Hello
Puggins: thanks for that tip!
Ohana: that sounds so easy!
Phyllis: Hi and welcome
Sdominoqueen: I prefer using Ancient Page dye inks and have used Stazon with the
same results
ejaangel: Thank you, love dominos
Nicole: would the Palette Hybrid pads be ok?
Ohana: thanks too, I have acquired quite a collection and want to get into the
fun part
Phyllis: the palette noir works great
Nicole: ok sounds good
Sdominoqueen: I haven't tried the hybrid pads, but you can definitely give them
a go. There's really no rules when it comes to altering dominoes
Ohana: How hard is it to drill your own holes?
Wendy K: I've done that, it's not too hard
Puggins: I was just going to ask that same questions Ohana!
vbarth3615@a: easy - I do it all the time
steph s: Leigh have you ever embossed on the domino...and colored in with
sharpies
Ohana: Best tool?
ejaangel: Husband
steph s: i have a hand drill that works good
Phyllis: lol
Wendy K: lol
Linda: hi, I have a drill press so drilling holes are really easy. My 10 year
does it for me
Ohana: Great
Sdominoqueen: Dremel and a drill press makes life make easier
Phyllis: so dremel is easy to use?
steph s: yes phyllis i love mine
Ohana: do they break (split) easily?
Puggins: ooohh...Father's Day....guess what DH might get
Sdominoqueen: Steph, I've embossed on dominoes but not a stamped image
Phyllis: great
Scout: Maybe if the Queen has a class planned, we should hold our questions,
cause it may be down on her list.....
Phyllis: good point scout
spip: thanks scout
vbarth3615@a: I have embossed on a domino - works great
Ohana: Ok
Sdominoqueen: I prefer to do the Suze thing and coat a domino with embossing
powder and then press the stamp into it
Linda: split? you mean the domino? I haven't had any split on me
steph s: oh okay i havent tried that
Ohana: yes, the domino
Sdominoqueen: Thanks Scout, but decided to start with a Q&A to see where the
interest lies the most
Phyllis: every where lol
ejaangel: what is the best glue for embellishments on them
Linda: that's right
vbarth3615@a: Will we be able to get a transcript of this class?
Wendy K: Yes, there will be a transcript up tomorrow
Ohana: great question, I was just thinking of that
vbarth3615@a: where?
Linda: I've been using crafter's glue
Wendy K: I'll post it to the stampers mall mailing list
Vaughnde logged off at 9:20:37 PM
Sdominoqueen: OK - yes it looks like there's a million questions so lets start
from the beginning, ok!
Puggins: okay
Phyllis: go for it
vbarth3615@a: whatis the web address for that site?
Wendy K: go to www.stampersmall.com
Wendy K: then click on mailing list
Sdominoqueen: Ok, lets start with a shiny domino straight from the tin
Ohana: first step?
Sdominoqueen: You can either stamp an image directly onto the domino with a heat
set dye ink
Phyllis: take dominoe out of tin
Ohana: hahahahahaha
Sdominoqueen:
Sdominoqueen: You mean 'pry dominoes out of kid's hands' first
Ohana: yes, and some adults too
vbarth3615@a: I buy my own tins!
Ohana: OK, I've done the stamp directly
Sdominoqueen: Once you've stamp your domino with heat set ink then heat set it.
This just dries it for colouring but does not make it permanent yet
Sdominoqueen: Then you can colour with Sharpies or the Adirondack pigment pens
Linda: is one better than the other?
Sdominoqueen: or both together - the colours work well together but you can't
blend them together to get new colours
Ohana: more color choices with sharpies I think
Wendy K: Leigh, can you change your color to red? Might make it easier to see
Sdominoqueen: I much prefer Sharpies
Sdominoqueen: Definitely more colours
Linda: good got tons of them
Linda: good got tons of them
Sdominoqueen: Done
Phyllis: ?
Wendy K: Awesome, thanks
Marion: Adirondacks are blenable when wet and permanet when dry.
Ohana: does future floor wax discolor after awhile
Marion: blendable
Sdominoqueen: Yes, you can blend Adirondacks with each other but they don't like
blending with Sharpies - they seem to cancel each other
Marion: Different formulation!
Sdominoqueen: they act more like an eraser than trying to achieve a new colour
Ann Ullery: Yes, I found that out the hard way !
Sdominoqueen: So, use both markers on the same domino, just in different areas
of the design
Ohana: I bought unmounted stamps for small dominoes as convention in Boise 2 yrs
ago, they make it so easy
ejaangel: Future is great, don't use hairspray though
Ohana: 'at' convention
steph s: Leigh when you color in is there a particular direction you should
color in...to get even strokes...
Linda: if you use sharpie why would you use future floor wax?
Ohana: hairspray is only good on spiders! yuk!
Phyllis: it is?
Marion: And hornets
ejaangel: just for a nice shiny finish
Sdominoqueen: If anyone has the Somerset Studio July/Aug 2003 issue you can read
my Sharpie Domino Queen article or go to my website at
www.velvetpawcreations.com for more info on using Sharpies
Ohana: I didn't find that fff yellowed on transparencies, but wanted to know
about dominoes
vbarth3615@a: I have that issue-great & beautiful work!!
Sdominoqueen: I prefer to work in a circular motion when colouring with sharpies
and A pigment pens
Ohana: I'll look it up too! Thanks, and Aloha, Ohana
Sdominoqueen: Thank you!
Ohana has been logged out at 9:30:02 PM
Linda: circular. will have to try. I do dots kind of like Monet
Sdominoqueen: Small circles and keep moving
Sdominoqueen: Sharpies dry quickly and get sticky if you take longer to colour
an area
Sdominoqueen: if you need to over an area then the Sharpie will re-wet what you
put down already and will remove some colour OR will darken the colour you put
down already
createdtoPra: can you wet emboss on these dominos
Scout: yes, i've had that happen
Sdominoqueen: The darken characteristic is great when you want to get a darker
version of the colour
Linda: do use the shiny domino or do you bleach them 1st?
Sdominoqueen: But basically keep working the area in small circular strokes,
moving constantly until you fill the space
Sdominoqueen: Keep the tip of the marker on the (unbleached) domino until you're
finished
Sdominoqueen: If you keep lifting the marker then you leave little dots in the
middle of the colour
Puggins: great tip, now I know why I have "dots"
Sdominoqueen: Pick the marker up when you get close to a black stamped line
steph s: night ejaangel
Sdominoqueen: so the dot then blends into the line
Sdominoqueen: My number 1 tip for Sharpie colouring is always have a scrap piece
of paper next to your domino
Sdominoqueen: This is especially usefull when working with a fine detailed image
Sdominoqueen: Everyone time you apply colour to the domino, wipe the tip of the
paper to remove any black ink that might have been picked up from the lines
Linda: do you use ultra fine, fine or reg. size tip sharpies?
Phyllis: or all of the above?
Scout: In other words, it lifts the black edging off?
Sdominoqueen: all of them
Sdominoqueen: you can colour a very small area with the fine point
Sdominoqueen: ultra not essential but makes it easier
Sdominoqueen: Yes, the marker can lift ink from the stamped image
Linda: even if it's staz-on?
Sdominoqueen: if you don't clean the tip on the scrap paper then the colouring
will look muddy
Sdominoqueen: yes, even the Stazon - even though it's heat set (both Stazon/Ancient
Page) - the alcohol in the marker lifts the colour
Linda: will keep that in mind
Marion: Has anyone ever tried Slick Writers?
Sdominoqueen: yes, they're okay - use them for the occassional detail
Sdominoqueen: but prefer Sharpies
Linda: Can all this info apply to microscope slides?
Ann Ullery: Sorry kids - gotta run. Thank you Leigh - - I've bookmarked your
website !
Sdominoqueen: the slick writers that is
Phyllis: Night Ann
Sdominoqueen: Thanks, have a great night!
vbarth3615@a: do you have tons of Sharpies!?
Scout: Have seen dominoes done with Alcohol inks, polished stone
Scout: Will the faux polished stone work on them?
Sdominoqueen: ummm do you consider a rubber maid shoe box a ton of sharpies, LOL
Phyllis: Do you have problems with the gold sharpie drying out?
vbarth3615@a: that's a lot of Sharpies
Rockin Robin: Hi
Sdominoqueen: Ranger alcohol inks is a great way to create a background on a
shiny dom
Rockin Robin: I absolutely love the ranger alcohol inks on dominoes!!!!
Rockin Robin: The new colors rock!
Phyllis: the alcohol inks work great on a pleathera of stuff
Sdominoqueen: Defintely don't try to colour a stamped image with Sharpies on top
of an alcohol background - that goes for A pigment pens too
Linda: ah
Sdominoqueen: messed up the point on my sharpie - gummed it up
Rockin Robin: I have used sharpies with ETOH (abbreviation for alcohol) inks,
and have had no problems. I heat set between each step
Sdominoqueen: the Adir. pigment pens also just lifted the colour
Sdominoqueen: Hmmm, can't remember if I heat set before trying the
sharpies....I'll give that another try then
Sdominoqueen: So, besides Sharpies and Alcohol inks there
Sdominoqueen: is one more technique I love to use for shiny doms
Rockin Robin: general question re dominoes...what do you guys use to seal the
dominoes when you mix the ETOH and sharpies? I have tried a number of things and
the only thing that doesn't make the color run is diamond glaze, any other
suggestions?
Sdominoqueen: I'll get to the sealing in a bit
Sdominoqueen: I love to stain the dominoes with Ancient Page dye inks before
stamping the image
vbarth3615@a: how long does this class last tonite?
Sdominoqueen: You can apply colour with a pieces of kitchen towel dabbed onto
the ink pad and then rubbed into the dom and heat set
Linda: kind of like distressing?
Sdominoqueen: or don't rub and just smoosh the colour onto the dom....I like to
call this my 'watercolour effect'
Sdominoqueen: you can see an article on my watercolour effect at www.Unmounted
Central.com
steph s: Leigh have you tried any of the distress inks by Tim Hotlz
Sdominoqueen: I've used the distress inks to stain the dominoes
steph s: do they work good
Sdominoqueen: yes they do - same as the Ancient page
steph s: cool more options...since i have them all LOL as well as ancient page
Rockin Robin: tim holtz distress inks have some yummy colors, can't wait to play
with those
Sdominoqueen: another great direct to domino technique are the Brilliance
pigment ink pads - especially the 3 colours in one
vbarth3615@a: I used them when I first started playing with dominos
Sdominoqueen: make a little handle out of sticky tape and attach it to the
domino
Sdominoqueen: and then pounce the domino directly on the ink pad
Linda: oh great idea..maybe I'll have less inky fingers
steph s: oh never thought of brilliance will have to try that
Sdominoqueen: keep the domino moving slightly up and down to prevent getting
definitely lines between the colours
Scout: you dreamer, Linda
Rockin Robin: how about the little suction cups that yolu can buy at the craft
store?
Rockin Robin: would that work to hold the dom
steph s: nice thought Linda...i think i always will have inky fingers lol
Sdominoqueen: You must heat set the Brilliance ink pads too
Scout: and I will always be putting one down on a freshly finished card ...vbg
Sdominoqueen: Now for the sealing
Linda: does the distress and ant. ink need to be heat set also?
Sdominoqueen: Yes
Scout: Just think "seal to make it real"
Sdominoqueen: I'd heat set just to be safe even if it turned out it didn't need
it
Sdominoqueen: When working with Sharpies I prefer to apply a coat of Diamond
Glaze or Crystal lacquer
steph s: better to be safe then sorry
Linda: do you use a paint brush to apply?
Sdominoqueen: The only side effect of using glaze/lacquer (besides air bubbles
that is) is it turns a red Sharpie orange
spip: where are the best places to buy these products?
Sdominoqueen: on the domino that is - so anything you coloured red ends up being
orange
Linda: does it turn anything red?
steph s: anyway to correct that or do you just have to live with the orange
Scout: what does it do to purple?
Sdominoqueen: The only way to correct it is to re-colour over the area on top of
the glaze - but then that part isn't sealed
Scout: cause it has red in it
Sdominoqueen: HOWEVER
Phyllis: Have you tried spraying with light coats of Krylon gloss spray paint?
Sdominoqueen: exactly what I was about to say
Sdominoqueen: no change to any other colour besides red
Sdominoqueen: if you pre-spray the Sharpie decorated domino with Krylon Artist's
workable fixative and then apply the glaze it stays red
steph s: oh cool
Linda: excellent
Sdominoqueen: but if you don't mind the orange or haven't used red then straight
to glaze is a quick and easy way to get a glorious glossy finish
Marion: Have you tried Gloss Accents? Does the color change with that too?
Sdominoqueen: ONE TIP: do not shake the bottle, even a little, to prevent
getting air bubbles
Rockin Robin: is it really durable tho, cuz i like to wear mine?
Linda: probably ... same thing different name
Sdominoqueen: I apply two coats to domino keyrings and coasters
Sdominoqueen: no problems so far
Linda: would this be the time to add charms and whatever or would you glue them
on later
Sdominoqueen: haven't tried Gloss Accents so I'd be very curious to know if it
effects the red
Sdominoqueen: perfect time to add the charm or sprinkle glitter or micro beads
Sdominoqueen: for domino keyrings I add the embellishments then apply the second
the coat - once the first one is dry
Sdominoqueen: Another sealing option is the Krylon sprays
Wendy K: which method of sealing do you prefer?
Rockin Robin: and these don't make the sharpies run?
Sdominoqueen: some of you have already experienced the horror of your inks
bleeding or the design desolving
Rockin Robin: yes
Sdominoqueen: there is a way
Sdominoqueen: to prevent this
Sdominoqueen: first you MUST apply 2 - 3 coats of artist's workable fixative
Linda: so 2-3 coat of fixative then 2 coats of the diamond glaze stuff.
Sdominoqueen: the misting must be so light you practically just 'scare' the
domino with the spray, LOL
Phyllis: I just applied light coats of Krylon gloss with no running problems on
mine
spip: where do you buy diamond glaze?
Linda: how thick to you make the glaze?
Sdominoqueen: that will work if you're not wanting to achieve the glass like
shiny surface
steph s: spip i have gotten mine at my local stamp store
Linda: michael's carries it
spip: thanks, I haven't found it
Phyllis: course I had to put on about six coats of it
Rockin Robin: dom queen, have you tried using the melting pot with utee in it to
seal, i did it to one and it looks cool
Sdominoqueen: after the mistings of fixative then you apply 2 - 3 light mistings
of the glossy or matte spray sealer
Sdominoqueen: HOWEVER
Sdominoqueen: even after apply the fixative, if you apply a coat of sealer too
thickly then it will bleed the inks/Sharpies
Linda: so the key is light and many
Sdominoqueen: The only way is to be patient and apply very light mistings - one
heavy coat and your design will be gone before you can start sobbing
Rockin Robin: so, do you hold the dom far away and spray, or is there another
application method?
Linda: I use a paper box from work to put things in then spray
spip: I "backroll" tape and stick it on the side of a box to prevent drips
Sdominoqueen: I take my doms outside and hover over them and spritz (I put
newspaper down)
Rockin Robin: i cut a wire coat hanger so that i could hang the dom from the
drill holes and the hangar hangs from a pipe in the basement
Rockin Robin: works great
Sdominoqueen: If anyone is wondering...drill the holes in your dom before you
start decorating
spip: Leigh, you have the best images - who are your favorite stamp makers?
April: whats the best way to drill the dominoes?
Sdominoqueen: nothing worse than a scratch in the design after all the hardwork
April: I have a drwemel.. but no vice
Linda: drill press or dremel
vbarth3615@a: or regular drill
Scout: we all have to have a little vice
Sdominoqueen: you definitely need a vice - an artist can't risk loosing a finger
Linda: vice would be worthwhile unless hubby is trusting
Scout: vise
April: do you do it longways or start thru fron to back?
Rockin Robin: i like vice better, it's more fun
Sdominoqueen: I call it a clamp actually
April: LOL
vbarth3615@a: my husband got tired of drilling holes for me so he gave one of
his old ones - a real man drill!!
Scout: true, Robin
Sdominoqueen: I got the new dremel drill press station for my birthday
Linda: I drill long way, side way, short way depends on the purpose
Scout: I drill all the time with hubbies drill, but it sure makes him nervous.
Rockin Robin: ooh, i'm jealous, i want a drill press, i have the dremel already
April: oh man, they are nice
Scout: just a plain old regular drill, but have never tried a domino
Linda: got my drill press 1/2 off at harbor frieghts $44
Sdominoqueen: if you're drilling holes through the domino top to bottom or side
to side
April: iam a little afriad to try to drill it longwise
Linda: best to have a long drill
Rockin Robin: be careful, i have broken some bits with a standard drill, and
man, do they fly
vbarth3615@a: I put a 2x4 piece of wood under my domino so I won't dill thru the
table
April: either way how do you make sure it lines up?
Rockin Robin: ROFL, been there done that
Sdominoqueen: then mark the hole location on both sides and then drill half way
then half way from the other side
Linda: draw a line on the dot side
April: ok
Sdominoqueen: go slowly and keep bringing the bit out to remove dust and prevent
the
Sdominoqueen: dom from over heating
April: i have wanted to do some wit the thing down thru the center, but was
afraid it would go flying,lol
Linda: oh yeah it'll get hot and you can smell the plastic!
April: ok
Sdominoqueen: and the fumes
Linda: open the window or the garage door
April: itinks
Sdominoqueen: nothing can compare to the stick of burnt dom up your nose for
hours afterwards
vbarth3615@a: I've been hinting for a drill press to drill the long way
Rockin Robin: are these instructions all applicable to ceramic dom's too. I
prefer those
April: it stinks, for sure
Sdominoqueen: stink I mean
April: you got that right!lol
Linda: well, except for tupperware in micro for 20 minutes. oo wee bad smell
steph s: lol
Sdominoqueen: LOL
Rockin Robin: roflmao
April: oh yuck thats bad too!lol
Linda: not that I've ever done that
Scout: did it melt all over?
Sdominoqueen: I can up that one...burnt roasted chestnuts
steph s: oh yuck Leigh
April: ugh
Sdominoqueen: I had to scrub the kitchen down 3 times to remove the smell
Linda: not all over just into itself...smoke pouring out of the micro
Rockin Robin: why did you cook them if they were already roasted?
Linda: burnt chestnuts ick!
spip: you mentioned using embossing powder earlier -
spip: could you elaborate?
Linda: back to the domino
Sdominoqueen: I got these frozen roast chestnuts from Trader Joes and you heat
them up in the microwave
Rockin Robin: ah, it's all clear to me now
Linda: do you emboss just like on a card?
Sdominoqueen: I made the mistake of putting the oven time instead of the
microwave --- smoke was billowing
steph s: lol
Sdominoqueen: Ok --- back to the embossing doms
Linda: LOL
Sdominoqueen: spip:
Sdominoqueen: I like to do the Suze Weinberg method
spip: what is that?\
Sdominoqueen: of applying layers of
jackie K logged on at 10:21:43 PM
Sdominoqueen: embossing powder to a surface
Sdominoqueen: I ink up the shiny domino with pigment ink
steph s: hi Jackie
Linda: versamark?
Sdominoqueen: whatever colour depending on what colour embossing powder you plan
to use
Sdominoqueen: I like to use brilliance or colorbox
Sdominoqueen: then apply a layer of embossing powder and heat set
Sdominoqueen: use the same method for the standard building up of layers
Rockin Robin: clear or colored ep?
Linda: any problem with EP flaking/breaking off?
Sdominoqueen: by applying a new layer while the old one is still hot
spip: do you put the stamp into HOT goop?
Sdominoqueen: any - whatever your preference, or the project needs
Linda: hot goop?
spip: LOL youeh, melted powder
steph s: hot pot spip
Rockin Robin: funny
Sdominoqueen: I haven't had a single one flake, but have receive some in swaps
that did...I don't know what those ladies did different
spip: wait , the powder is on the dom, not in a pot
spip: so, do you use a stamp on the embossing powder?
Sdominoqueen: yes - once I've applied about 3 layers of embossing powder I press
the stamp into molten liquid
spip: thanks leigh - the stamp isn't damaged, then?
Sdominoqueen: oh no -- some say it's best to ink your stamp but others say it
doesn't matter
vbarth3615@a: so the whole domino is covered with embossing powder/
spip: wow, that's amazing
spip: I didn't know the stamp would survive that heart
spip: heat
Sdominoqueen: build up layers of embossing directly on the domino
Puggins: sorry Ladies, I must go...Thanks much for the good information. I will
be sure to read the transcript tomorrow.
Sdominoqueen: heating in between each coat
spip: so, when you do stamp, does the stamp go through to the surface of the dom?
vbarth3615@a: I just stamp with embossing ink and then sprinkle ep on top and
heat. so just the image is there
Linda: can you wait for it to cool slightly then stamp the stamp into the soft
EP
jackie K: can you use Opals for this?
Sdominoqueen: not really - I haven't seen the dom show through
Rockin Robin: the heat doesn't hurt the rubber
Sdominoqueen: I'm sure you could
spip: Leigh, where do your favorite stamps come from? You have some beauties
Linda: opalites is neat on the black dominos I've found
Sdominoqueen: by the time you put the heat gun down and have picked up the stamp
that's enough time for the EP to set
Sdominoqueen: I wouldn't wait longer
vbarth3615@a: have you ever tried using Pinata/Fiesta inks to paint inside the
embossed image? I t's really cool
Sdominoqueen: no doesn't hurt the rubber
Linda: dumb question.... but do you put powder on domono then move domino to a ?
to heat it up then pick it up to move to sprinkle more on then move it back to
heat it up?
Sdominoqueen: it's best to do the embossing inside a box - helps keep the flying
EP from going all over your desk
Sdominoqueen: just sprinkle the powder directly onto the dom inside the box
between heatings
Linda: ok i got a shoe box that would work... should I line it?
Sdominoqueen: no need - unless you want to rescue unused melted EP
Rockin Robin: you could use a non-stick craft sheet and use the ep on a glass
slide or something to reuse it
Sdominoqueen: I like to work with black embossing powder and then ink the stamp
with gold and press that into the domino
Linda: oooo that's sounds awesome
Rockin Robin: leigh, where can i see some of your dom's
spip: that sounds like a nice effect
Sdominoqueen: check out my website at www.velvetpawcreations.com
Rockin Robin: thanks
Sdominoqueen: I think I've got an altered matchbox with a mini embossed domino
as an embellishment up
April: oh man that bsounds nice
Wendy K: Leigh is also the team leader for Altered Game Pieces on Stamper's Mall
Wendy K: so you can check the current and archived newsletters
Rockin Robin: bcool april
Linda: oh what other game pieces do you use?
Sdominoqueen: I used black EP and pressed in 'ART' in gold - worked great
