3 in 1 ATC, Holder and Tag
Featuring the Northern Lights Technique by
Linda Strawn
I have always admired the northern lights and this technique reminds me so
much of the beauty of those lights. It is hard for a person to see the
lights reflected on the paper by the picture - a person has to do the technique
to appreciate the beauty of it. So let’s get started. Assemble all your supplies before you start:
See Picture 1

A covered workspace
Black glossy paper
7-8 colors of Pearl Ex powder
2 Brushes Perfect Paper Adhesive Matt finish (www.usartquest.com)
3 colors of spray webbing: white, black and gold
Directions:
1. Cut a piece of 8-1/2 x 11” glossy black paper in half.
2. Cover your work surface with scratch paper to protect it and then lay
the black paper glossy side up.
3.
In the center of each paper pour a dollop of Perfect Paper Adhesive

4. Using a large fluffy brush, spread Perfect Paper Adhesive smoothly out to cover whole
surfaces of cardstock.
5. Open 6-7 jars of Pearl Ex. Use some blues, greens, reds, as
well as pearl and gold. Dip a small paintbrush in first jar and tap a bit
off onto the glue covered paper. Repeat this step to have a few sprinkles
at various places on the paper. Repeat this step with other colors
desired.
See Picture 3

6. Using the fluffy brush from before, use short brush strokes to blend in
the colored powders, do not mix a lot or you will muddy the colors. You just
want to blend these into the Perfect Paper Adhesive and cover the paper. If the brush seems
to drag a little pour on just a tad more Perfect Paper Adhesive.

to see colors blended.
7. Set aside now to dry.
See Picture 5

8. When dry set the paper inside a box lid. Using long swinging sweeps,
spray the paper with 3 colors of spray webbing. I sprayed
the white lengthwise on the paper and sprayed the other colors widthwise.

.
You can get spray webbing at most craft stores.
9. Set aside and let dry.

.
Next we will use the paper to
make our project.
The Three M’s ATC, ATC Holder and Tag:
1. Using Northern lights paper from above steps, cut a piece 3-3/4” wide
by 8 inches in length.
2. Place this piece painted side down, and cover the white back side with a piece
of music sheet paper.
3. Measure 5-1/4” and score. Fold the edge up to form a pocket. Attach an
eyelet at each corner. This will form your ATC holder.
4. On a white piece of cardstock, use black ink to stamp 90696-Y Illuminata
stamp (Inkadinkadoo.) Cut out Beethoven into a rectangle measuring
2-1/2” in length and 1-3/4 “ in width. Also cut out the words Ludwig von
Beethoven into a strip 1-3/4” by 1/2”, cut the piano out 2-1/2 length by
1-3/4 wide. Mount the Word strip on the center of card holder.
See finished picture, 3 in 1.

Under this mount a piano charm tied with a bit of linen
thread. Add black and white fibers tied thru the eyelet holes to complete
the holder.
5. Cut a shipping tag with a scrap 4-1/4” long 2-1/4” wide. Clip corners.
Tear a piece of white music paper to go along left side of tag, and glue
down. Add photo corners to the corners of piano stamping and glue onto
tag. Add a piano charm tied on with a bit of fiber to tag. Punch a hole at
the top and add black and white fibers thru hole. See finished piece ATC
and tag for placements.
6. Cut another piece of the paper into a rectangle 3-1/2” x 2-1/2” this is
the standard side for ATC’s Add black photo corners to the rectangle of
Beethoven and glue this to bottom left of ATC. Add a Piano charm tied on
with a bit of black and white fiber. See finished piece, ATC and tag for
placement.
7. The 3 M’s stand for MUSIC, MAESTRO, and MASTER, I used tin type’s
alphabet letters from Making Memories on all three pieces,

for placements.
8. Place your ATC, and Tag in the holder and you are finished. You will
have a small scrap of paper left to use in another project or card.
