Kathy Stoffel, Design Team Member

My interests include sewing, quilting, decoupage, altered books, collage, and bead and found-object jewelry. I love to make pieces that include multiple techniques (acrylics, found objects, beads, stamping, metalworking, patinas, collage). I've taken classes from Claudine Hellmuth on collage composition; Susan Lenart Kazmer on patinas, using found objects in jewelry, and using resins in elements for jewelry; and from Bev Brazelton on altered/art books. I really enjoy learning new techniques. My current favorite projects are altered books and found-object jewelry.

Sewing theme spread in university collection altered book.

This is a spread in a book created with matboard pages sewn into an embossed book cover whose pages were removed…from a Bev Brazelton class at Caroline Moon shop in Des Plaines, IL.
Just Do It Art Doll

I was inspired by Susan’s work to try making an art doll from found objects. This art doll is gathering her power...it shows in her computer chip body, her muscular arms (one with a die for a bit of luck)...she's also got a little play and hasn't let go of her feminine side...her head is made from copper with an etched face; the etching also provided the patina.

Watch Back Choker

The intricate and delicate detail on the backs of these watches shows the incredible craftsmanship that has gone into their making and inspired me to use them as focals in this necklace. I love highly detailed designs and find these watch-backs to be as beautiful as gemstones. This piece is in Lark Book's "Fabulous Found Object Jewelry" book that came out in spring of 2005...Watch mechanisms wire-wrapped together with side beaded pieces...Susan Lenart Kazmer, Mary Hettmansperger and many other artists have awesome designs in this book...I was delighted to be included.
